Job Description

The Child Nutrition Service Manager is a leadership role responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and controlling all district-wide child nutrition service operations and activities. This includes overseeing food preparation, cooking, baking, serving, distribution, and sales of food items to meet the nutritional needs of students across the district. The manager will coordinate personnel, communication, and record-keeping functions to ensure efficient and smooth department operations while maintaining compliance with safety, sanitation, and applicable regulatory requirements. Supervision and performance evaluation of assigned staff are key duties in this role. The position requires developing innovative strategies to improve financial effectiveness, operational efficiency, and sustainability of the nutrition services, including the incorporation of fresh, seasonal, and environmentally sustainable food items.

Additionally, the manager will serve as a consultant for internal personnel and external agencies concerning food service activities, policies, and compliance. Responsibilities include menu development aligned with health and nutrition standards, inventory control, cash management, hygiene inspections, staff training, grant preparation, and promoting the district's recycling and composting programs. The role involves regular communication with students, staff, vendors, and community partners to address issues and enhance service quality.

The successful candidate will possess strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills, combined with expertise in child nutrition, food service management, budgeting, and regulatory compliance. Proficiency in computer applications and standard office equipment is necessary, along with the ability to analyze complex situations and adopt effective solutions independently. Working conditions include office environment duties and travel to various district sites. This position offers a structured salary schedule with periodic increases based on performance and anniversary dates, reflecting the district's commitment to professional development and fair compensation.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two or more years of food service supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of child nutrition principles and safety regulations
  • Ability to plan, organize, and direct food service operations
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Capability to operate computers and assigned software
  • Ability to analyze situations and resolve conflicts
  • Must have valid driver's license to travel between sites
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Willingness to comply with applicable laws, policies and procedures

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Plan, organize, control and direct nutrition service operations and activities including preparation, cooking, baking, serving, distribution and selling of food items
  • Coordinate personnel, communications and record-keeping functions to meet food service needs and assure smooth department activities
  • Supervise and evaluate performance of assigned staff including hiring, training and disciplinary actions
  • Monitor and evaluate food service activities for financial effectiveness and operational efficiency including menu development and sustainability initiatives
  • Provide consultation and resolve issues related to food service operations
  • Direct and maintain food service records, reports, budgets, and compliance documentation
  • Coordinate inventory, purchasing, receiving, storage, and rotation of food service items and supplies
  • Manage cashiering and accounting functions including receipts, deposits, and discrepancy resolution
  • Assure clean and sanitary conditions of food service facilities, equipment and utensils
  • Develop and implement daily menus and recipes according to nutrition and portion control guidelines
  • Communicate with students, staff, and external agencies to exchange information and resolve concerns
  • Operate food service and office equipment, including computer software
  • Oversee district recycling and composting programs
  • Conduct meetings and departmental training sessions
  • Perform related duties as assigned
