Job Description
The Jewish Federation of Cleveland is a cornerstone organization dedicated to fostering and supporting the health and vitality of the entire Jewish community in Cleveland. Established over 120 years ago, the Federation has been instrumental in mobilizing resources, creating impactful social change, and providing essential relief during times of crisis. Their work transcends local boundaries, extending support and innovative programming not only throughout Cleveland but also in Israel and global Jewish communities. As a hub for collaborative services and pioneering solutions, the Federation plays a pivotal role in strengthening Jewish life, culture, and identity for individuals and families across generations.
Within this dynamic organization, the role of Director, International Experiences, is a vital leadership position focused on enhancing Jewish engagement for young adults aged 18 to 26 through meaningful local and international travel programs, with a primary emphasis on Israel. This full-time role reports directly to the Vice President of International Operations and involves comprehensive oversight of an expansive portfolio of international travel and engagement opportunities. The Director is entrusted with supervising the International Experiences Associate to orchestrate recruitment, promotion strategies, and robust partnerships with campus groups and program providers.
The Director’s responsibilities encompass strategic planning, program and event development, and execution of several signature initiatives such as Taglit Birthright Israel, Birthright Israel Onward, MASA programs, and other international experiences. These programs are designed to cultivate a deeper cultural, educational, and emotional connection to Jewish heritage and Israel among college-aged students and young adults. Central to this position is the development of innovative engagement strategies and the facilitation of experiential learning opportunities before, during, and after trips, ensuring participants not only travel but also grow meaningfully through the experiences.
A key aspect of the role includes managing budgets related to the International Experiences portfolio and associated events, developing and maintaining relationships with international partners, program providers, campus contacts, and other agencies serving the 18-26 demographic. The Director also plays a critical role in crisis management, coordinating communications and logistical response during emergencies or unexpected events affecting program participants, especially in Israel. This position requires diplomatic communication with participants, parents, donors, and committees, alongside grant oversight and reporting to secure and manage funding that supports these impactful programs.
In addition to programmatic leadership, the Director is engaged in broader organizational efforts, including an annual campaign assignment supporting volunteer staff and participating in campaign activities. The role requires regular travel both internationally and domestically to Israel and various campuses to foster partnerships and represent the Federation at networking and programmatic events. Furthermore, it supports the International Operations department by assisting visiting international delegations and contributing to community-wide events.
This leadership role demands a balance of strong strategic thinking, creative problem-solving, and interpersonal skills to nurture and expand the Federation’s international engagement initiatives. Job Duties
