Job Description
Our client is a premier hospital located in the Bay Area, California, celebrated for its exceptional patient care and innovative research environment. This hospital holds prestigious accolades such as MAGNET designation recognizing nursing excellence and is nationally known as a leading stroke center. Recognized among the top hospitals in the San Francisco area, it combines a strong culture of safety and clinical excellence with cutting-edge technology including robotics, advanced imaging, AI-assisted decision support, virtual nursing, and hospital-at-home programs. With recent expansions and PR momentum, the hospital supports interdisciplinary teams, active research initiatives, IRB-approved clinical trials, and publication mentoring under committed leadership that values employee input and career growth.
The role of Director Hospital Research Funding Administration is a highly influential leadership position within the Philanthropy and Research division. This division encompasses development, advancement, grant administration, and scientific inquiry. The Director will develop and execute the strategy to manage a high-impact portfolio of grants and sponsored programs that align external funding sources with the hospital's clinical, translational, and health-services priorities. Reporting to senior research leadership and working closely with foundation executives and finance teams, the Director will lead a multidisciplinary group of pre- and post-award specialists, grants managers, contracts analysts, and data experts.
Key responsibilities include driving the growth of funding pipelines, fostering foundation and industry partnerships, optimizing operations related to grant awards, and ensuring compliance with regulations from NIH, FDA, OMB Uniform Guidance, and state authorities. The Director will oversee all lifecycle aspects of research funding from opportunity scanning and letters of intent, through complex budgeting, contract negotiation, subaward administration, effort reporting, cost-recovery optimization, and audits, culminating in impactful outcomes storytelling supported by advanced analytics dashboards and clinician-friendly tools integrated with electronic health records.
This role offers an exceptional platform for innovation in a healthcare setting focused on measurable outcomes, quality scores, low healthcare-associated infection rates, and excellent patient experience. Located in the vibrant Bay Area, the position provides an enviable work-life balance enriched by year-round sunshine, stunning natural landscapes, renowned cultural experiences, world-class dining, thriving job market, top educational institutions, and an inclusive, dynamic community. The hospital fosters a collaborative clinical workforce including principal investigators, service line chiefs, and nursing staff, creating an empowering environment where philanthropic support translates directly into breakthrough research and enhanced patient care.
Compensation for the Director Hospital Research Funding Administration is competitive and includes performance-based incentives, potential relocation assistance, and a comprehensive benefits package. This package comprises medical, dental, and vision insurance, 403(b)/401(k) retirement plans with employer contributions, paid time off, disability and life insurance, fertility and family-building support, tuition assistance, funded continuing education units and conferences, certification pay, and wellness resources. This role truly represents a career-defining opportunity for a motivated leader eager to make a tangible impact on healthcare research funding administration within a leading Bay Area institution.
