Job Description

Charter Communications is a leading telecommunications and mass media company operating under the Spectrum brand. Charter Communications is recognized for delivering superior communication and entertainment products across residential and business sectors throughout 41 states in the United States. The company's extensive service offerings include Spectrum Internet, TV, Mobile, and Voice, tailored to meet the diverse needs of its customers. Beyond these connectivity services, Spectrum also enhances the local experience by providing regional news, programming, and sports content via Spectrum Networks, as well as advanced advertising solutions through Spectrum Reach. By combining innovative technologies with a customer-centric approach, Charter Communications continues to establish itself as a pivotal player in the telecommunications landscape, consistently working to connect people to what matters most in their communities and lives.

The role of Director of Engineering at Spectrum is a strategic leadership position within a fast-paced engineering environment. As Director of Engineering, you will oversee a dynamic engineering team responsible for the architectural design, implementation, and support of operational initiatives. These initiatives encompass technology areas such as PSTN architecture, routing and infrastructure, voicemail platform architecture, and test engineering automation and validation. Your leadership will be instrumental in driving consistent engineering practices and ensuring the stable delivery of products that align with Spectrum's corporate goals.

You will cultivate and manage a front-line leadership team, mentoring them to develop their direct reports and foster a high-performance culture that thrives on collaboration and innovation. Your oversight extends to post-deployment support with a focus on minimizing the mean time to issue resolution, ensuring customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.

A key component of this role involves developing test engineering policies, procedures, and standards to guarantee the quality of delivered solutions while optimizing the use of test automation platforms to maximize operational efficiency. You will also maintain oversight of ongoing Voice Lab activities, implementing policies to avoid conflicts in operational tasks and contributing to compliance with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations and industry standards.

This position demands staying up-to-date with FCC and various technical bodies such as ATIS, SIP Forum, and 3GPP, actively contributing to company-sponsored feedback. You will frequently consult with senior leadership on technical operations, strategic planning, network operations, and new product deployment.

In addition, you are responsible for reviewing and challenging technical engineering solutions, directing quality control programs, overseeing contracted project bids, and integrating technical roadmaps into the capital budget process. Compliance with regulatory standards and company policies is paramount, as is succession planning and talent retention within the engineering department. This leadership role requires a blend of technical expertise, strategic vision, and effective team management to deliver excellence in telecommunications services.

The position offers a base salary range typically between $138,800 and $246,400, with actual compensation depending on individual skills, experience, qualifications, and location. The employment opportunity includes a comprehensive pay and benefits package to support employee well-being throughout their career stages. The role requires the applicant to have the legal right to work in the United States without the need for employment-based immigration sponsorship now or in the future.
