The Culinary Supervisor position at Atria Senior Living is a key role responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the kitchen and dining venues within their community. This leadership position demands a blend of culinary expertise, staff management, and customer service excellence. The ideal candidate will bring at least five years of culinary experience in the hospitality industry, along with strong organizational and time-management skills crucial for maintaining high standards and efficient kitchen operations. In this role, the Culinary Supervisor directly manages all Culinary Services staff, including hiring, training, performance reviews, and discipline in line with company policies. They work closely with residents, family members, and other community staff to maintain high satisfaction scores and a restaurant-style dining atmosphere. The position involves collaborating with the restaurant manager or coordinator to facilitate a seamless front of house and back of house operation, guaranteeing a coordinated effort in delivering exceptional food and service.

Moreover, the Culinary Supervisor takes charge of menu planning and recipe development, considering resident preferences and budget constraints while ensuring strict compliance with food safety standards and state health codes. They are tasked with maintaining inventory, vendor relations, and the proper use of kitchen equipment to minimize repair costs. The role also includes organizing and executing special events, banquets, and themed meals that enhance community life and marketing activities such as "Taste of Atria - Road Shows".

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Five or more years culinary experience in the hospitality industry
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Ability to resolve problems of dissatisfied customers and/or employees
  • Food handlers permit as required by state law and/or company standards
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must satisfactorily meet and be in compliance with company motor vehicle policy standards

Job Duties

  • Manage and supervise all Culinary Services staff including scheduling, assignment, direction, performance review, hiring and corrective action
  • Meet regularly with residents and family members to maintain high satisfaction levels
  • Collaborate with restaurant manager or coordinator to provide high levels of customer service and create a restaurant-style dining atmosphere
  • Confirm front and back of house staff work closely together to exceed resident and guest expectations
  • Assist kitchen and restaurant staff with operations as needed, including working all stations
  • Maintain customer satisfaction and quality enhancement levels by working with executive director and frontline staff
  • Delegate tasks to maintain cleanliness and quality in kitchen and dining areas
  • Ensure food is prepared, stored, and served according to company and health code standards
  • Interview and hire culinary staff
  • Conduct monthly department meetings and in-services
  • Maintain and understand monthly and annual budgets, including documentation of food, supplies, and labor spend
  • Plan and develop recipes and menus based on resident preferences and budgets
  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of kitchen equipment
  • Maintain inventory of kitchen supplies and tableware
  • Ensure purchasing standards and vendor relations
  • Plan and execute Engage Life events, special events, banquets, and theme meals
  • Work with community staff and sales director to market community through events
  • Ensure staff understand company expectations and first impression requirements
