Job Description

California State University, Fresno Foundation is a prestigious nonprofit organization that supports the academic, research, and community service programs of California State University, Fresno. The Director position for the Central California Public Health Consortium (Consortium) within the Foundation represents a pivotal leadership role responsible for spearheading public health initiatives across Central California. The Consortium is a regional membership organization composed of various public health departments dedicated to advancing health equity by addressing social determinants of health. Through strategic planning, policy development, advocacy, and research, the Consortium aims to improve public health outcomes for residents in the San Joaquin Valley and surrounding areas.

As a full-time, benefited position, the Director leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of all Consortium activities. Reporting to the Assistant Director of the Central California Center for Health and Human Services at California State University, Fresno, the Director fosters collaborations with local, regional, and statewide partners. This position is essential for facilitating Consortium membership meetings, securing funding, developing communication strategies, and managing staff and programs to ensure effective public health interventions. The Director actively represents the Consortium in legislative and advocacy efforts, ensuring a strong voice in policy decisions that impact the region's health.

This role requires expertise in public health principles, especially the application of epidemiology and health equity frameworks, and the ability to analyze and disseminate complex data to various audiences. The Director must demonstrate strong leadership skills to build and maintain productive partnerships, oversee budgets and programs, and cultivate an innovative and high-performing team culture. The ideal candidate brings extensive experience in public health or related fields, strong management skills, and a passion for community health improvement. Salary for this role ranges from $7,000 to $8,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, along with comprehensive benefits including health, dental, vision, life insurance, and retirement plans.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health or related field
  • five to seven years of full-time professional experience in public health or related field
  • minimum of two years of supervisory experience
  • management or organizational development experience preferred
  • current or previous employment in state or local government agency preferred
  • competence in public health 10 essential functions
  • understanding of social determinants of health and health equity
  • knowledge of regional demographic and health indicators
  • familiarity with local and state government operations
  • ability to interpret policies and legislation and develop advocacy positions
  • familiarity with epidemiological data
  • demonstrated success in securing grant funding
  • proficiency in communication across multiple formats
  • public speaking, facilitation, and consensus building skills
  • ability to work independently with strategic vision
  • experience collaborating with various agencies and communities
  • coordination skills for multiple working groups
  • prior oversight of staff and budgets
  • proficiency with standard computer programs
  • valid driver’s license and vehicle with insurance
  • bilingual English/Spanish preferred

Job Duties

  • Conduct strategic planning and program development to identify and prioritize Consortium activities
  • secure funding and resources necessary to accomplish Consortium goals, including ensuring organizational sustainability
  • develop relationships with local, regional, and state partners in alignment with strategic priorities
  • analyze local, state, and national legislation relevant to public health practice and prepare reports and communications
  • understand and apply epidemiological data to program and communication development
  • represent the Consortium in statewide efforts addressing equity, advocacy, and policy actions
  • serve as primary liaison for the Consortium with various organizations
  • support Consortium leadership and committee meetings and communications
  • track progress on work plans and budgets and prepare reports for funders
  • develop fee-for-service activities to build public health services
  • direct and oversee the work of Consortium staff and consultants
  • foster a collaborative, innovative, and high-performing team culture
  • perform other duties as assigned
