The role of Direct Support Professional (DSP) at Inspiritus is a vital position within the Disability Services Department. It involves providing direct, in-home care and assistance to support individuals with developmental disabilities in Savannah and surrounding community locations. This part-time position offers a flexible schedule with shifts early in the morning or late in the evenings from Sunday through Saturday. Compensation ranges from $18.00 to $18.50 per hour, reflecting the skills and dedication required.

As a DSP, you will be instrumental in empowering individuals to achieve greater independence, participate actively in their communities, and maintain their health and safety. Your responsibilities include assisting with personal care tasks such as grooming, bathing, dressing, and nutrition alongside light housekeeping and leisure activities. Transportation support to appointments and events is also central to the role. By encouraging choice-making and relationship building, you help promote a person-centered approach that respects and values individual preferences, cultural backgrounds, and religious beliefs.

This position requires a high level of professionalism, a positive attitude, and a compassionate spirit. Your ability to communicate effectively with clients, their families, and other team members is crucial for delivering quality services. Additionally, you will monitor health and wellbeing diligently, responding appropriately to any concerns and utilizing positive behavior support techniques to ensure a safe and supportive environment. Documentation of service delivery and observations is part of your daily duties, contributing to a comprehensive care plan tailored to each individual’s goals.

This role is also physically active and requires the frequent ability to move throughout the work shift, including walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Job Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • minimum high school diploma or equivalent
  • current Georgia driver’s license
  • current vehicle insurance
  • acceptable motor vehicle report
  • dependable vehicle
  • FBI criminal background clearance
  • must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • have or be able to obtain CPR/First Aid certification
  • ability to successfully complete behavior support training
  • ability to work professionally in home and community settings with clients and their families
  • ability to communicate professionally and effectively with clients, family members, Inspiritus personnel at all levels, and community members
  • ability to understand and maintain confidentiality requirements
  • frequent movement including walking, bending, reaching, squatting, sitting, pushing, and pulling throughout a work shift
  • ensure compliance with agency, local, state, and federal policies, procedures, rules and regulations

Job Qualifications

  • ability to work professionally in home and community settings with clients and their families
  • have or be able to obtain CPR/First Aid certification
  • experience working with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities preferred
  • caregiving experience of 1 year or more preferred
  • associate’s degree or higher in psychology, sociology, or special education preferred
  • CNA, PCA, or HHA certification preferred

Job Duties

  • Provide in-home assistance with personal care needs which may include grooming, dressing, bathing, proper nutrition, ambulation, light housekeeping tasks, leisure activities, shopping, medical monitoring, and other similar tasks
  • safely transport and accompany individual(s) to appointments, shopping, social activities, and other events
  • encourage relationship building and choice-making
  • support and implement a person-centered plan tailored to meet the needs, wants, and interests of the individual
  • provide assistance and training to the individual in support of achieving and exceeding their goals
  • ensure client safety and a safe home environment
  • support and respect the individual’s religious, cultural, ethnic, and individual differences
  • communicate and interact with the individual(s) respectfully and in a manner in which they best communicate
  • communicate respectfully and professionally with family members, friends, guardians, and advocates who support the individual(s)
  • accurately complete required documentation for service delivery as required
  • closely monitor individual’s health and well-being when providing services
  • document and clearly communicate concerns and observations to the Case Manager, RN, or designated team member
  • utilize positive behavior supports to prevent and manage any disruptive behaviors ensuring a safe environment
  • support and protect the human, civil, constitutional, and statutory rights of individuals served and their families
