Job Description

Job Requirements

  • Ability to safely assist with transfers, mobility support, and physical interventions
  • Capacity to push wheelchairs and operate adaptive equipment
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, or move up to 50 pounds, with accommodations if needed
  • Willingness to undergo required training including CPR/First Aid certification
  • Completion of client-specific and company-assigned training
  • Ability to tolerate exposure to emotionally intense situations, challenging behaviors, and bodily fluids as part of job duties

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Experience supporting individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities preferred
  • Ability to learn and implement specialized client-specific support procedures, training requirements, and service expectations
  • Ability to adapt to varying levels of support needs and changing service environments
  • Ability to remain calm and exercise sound judgment during stressful, unexpected, or emergency situations
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and provide services in a person-centered manner
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work independently within community-based settings
  • Ability to meet transportation and driving requirements for assigned caseloads, including maintaining reliable transportation, a valid California driver's license, acceptable driving record, current vehicle registration, and automobile insurance when required

Job Duties

  • Provide direct support and supervision to clients in accordance with individualized support plans and assigned service requirements
  • Implement individualized support plans, safety plans, support strategies, health-related supports, mobility protocols, and other client-specific procedures as assigned
  • Support clients with activities of daily living, including meal preparation, feeding assistance, personal hygiene, dressing, toileting, household tasks, shopping, and community participation
  • Assist clients with mobility, transfers, repositioning, wheelchair support, gait-belt assistance, adaptive equipment, and other physical support needs as trained and assigned
  • Maintain supervision levels consistent with individualized support plans and client safety needs
  • Monitor for changes in client health, safety, behavior, emotional well-being, environmental conditions, or other factors that may impact service delivery or client welfare
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies, behavioral incidents, medical concerns, and crisis situations in accordance with company policy, training, and individualized support protocols
  • Utilize person-centered, trauma-informed, and respectful support approaches at all times
  • Encourage client independence, informed decision-making, self-advocacy, and participation in meaningful activities
  • Assist clients in accessing educational, vocational, recreational, social, and community-based opportunities
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including progress notes, incident reports, medication documentation (if assigned and trained), and other required records
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, family members, interdisciplinary team members, healthcare professionals, and other support persons as appropriate
  • Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times
  • Transport clients safely within the community as assigned
  • Participate in required meetings, trainings, competency reviews, and ongoing professional development
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
