Job Description
ResCare Community Living, a division of the Sevita family, is a reputable provider of specialized home and community-based services that focus on empowering individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Established in 1974, ResCare Community Living has been dedicated to enhancing the independence and quality of life for those they support. The organization prioritizes person-centered care, delivering tailored services that help individuals build essential skills, overcome personal challenges, and realize their full potential in the community and at home. Drawing from decades of experience and supported by a committed team of professionals, ResCare strives to foster an environment where every person can thrive through individualized support plans and compassionate care.
The role of a Direct Support Professional (DSP) at ResCare Community Living is essential for implementing individual service and program plans that cater to the unique needs of each participant. This non-exempt, hourly position can be full-time or part-time, providing support primarily in residential settings where the professional will typically assist 4 to 6 individuals, or in periodic programs supporting up to 10 individuals. The DSP is responsible for delivering comprehensive assistance encompassing socialization, health maintenance, medication administration, and both skill and behavioral development.
Key responsibilities of this role include aiding with daily personal care such as hygiene and dressing, ensuring housekeeping and recreational activities are conducted, facilitating transportation and community integration activities, and supporting individuals in shopping and managing their own finances. The position also demands accurate documentation and record keeping to track service progress and changes, maintaining confidentiality and respecting the individuals' rights at all times. Furthermore, DSPs play a role in managing the individuals' assets responsibly and fostering positive relationships with families, guardians, and case managers in accordance with Sevita Customer Service Standards.
Healthcare-related duties require DSPs to accompany individuals to medical appointments when necessary, administer or support medication as needed, monitor general health, and respond appropriately in emergencies including calling 911 if required. Knowledge and proper use of medical supplies and equipment, as well as meal preparation aligned with individual dietary needs, are also crucial components of the role.
Employment responsibilities extend to participating in required training, adhering to scheduled hours, communicating effectively with team members and supervisors, and contributing to a safe and cooperative workplace. Maintenance duties involve vehicle safety and transportation, regular housekeeping and minor repairs, seasonal yard maintenance, and ensuring safe water temperatures and emergency preparedness.
Candidates interested in this position should have a high school diploma or equivalent, with six months of human services experience preferred, and must be at least 18 years old. Valid driver’s license and other state-required certifications for providing transportation and care are mandatory. The physical demands of the role are significant, involving the ability to exert substantial force when assisting individuals or managing equipment.
Sevita, the parent company, is a leading provider of specialized health care services nationwide with a mission to help people live more independently. With over 40,000 employees serving 50,000 individuals, Sevita fosters an inclusive work environment free from discrimination and supports continuous growth and innovation in care practices.
