Job Description
The Arc Los Angeles and Orange Counties is a well-respected 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing support services to adults aged 19 and older with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout Los Angeles and Orange Counties. Established in 1956, The Arc has a longstanding history of delivering exceptional community-based programs that empower individuals and their families. The organization’s mission is to help these individuals build person-centered life skills, access meaningful opportunities, and foster a sense of belonging within their communities. Their vision is to cultivate a society where people with disabilities can truly thrive and feel included in all aspects of life.
The role of Culinary Program Head Chef is a vital leadership position within The Arc’s culinary arts program. This role entails managing the culinary curriculum, menu planning, and the preparation of diverse, high-quality cuisine designed to meet the preferences and nutritional needs of the program participants. The Head Chef works directly with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, delivering hands-on culinary instruction in a commercial kitchen setting, supported by a dedicated team. This position not only requires culinary expertise but also demands strong leadership skills to foster a structured and supportive learning environment that enables participants to develop invaluable life skills.
As Culinary Program Head Chef, the successful candidate will lead a culinary team of at least four staff members, overseeing kitchen operations while actively participating in meal preparation. The role involves designing seasonal menus and a curriculum tailored to the unique learning needs of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The chef will ensure food quality and presentation meet high standards, manage kitchen inventory, and maintain cleanliness and health safety compliance at all times. Coordination and communication with front-of-house staff are essential for seamless event operations.
This position offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $22 to $26, commensurate with experience and educational background. It is a full-time role scheduled Monday through Friday, 7:45 am to 4:15 pm, with occasional evening and weekend hours to support special events. The Arc provides a comprehensive benefits package including health, vision, dental insurance, and a 403B retirement plan with employer contribution matching. This opportunity enables culinary professionals passionate about making a difference to combine their culinary expertise with meaningful community impact, supporting adults with developmental disabilities in gaining real-world skills and independence.
