The role of Dining Services Director at Cedarhurst Senior Living is a pivotal leadership position responsible for overseeing the entire dining program within the community. Reporting to the Regional Dining Services Director, this role ensures that residents, families, and guests receive nutritious, high-quality meals combined with exceptional hospitality. The Dining Services Director leads and develops a team of dining services professionals, manages daily kitchen and dining operations, and collaborates closely with vendors, community leadership, and regional authorities to maintain strict compliance with food safety and budgetary standards. This position plays a key role in menu planning, food preparation, and coordination of special events, all aimed at enhancing resident satisfaction and supporting marketing initiatives.
Beyond operational responsibilities, the Dining Services Director fosters a positive, service-driven culture within the community, aligning the dining experience with the overall mission of Cedarhurst. The director supervises staff scheduling, training, and performance management, ensuring efficient and effective dining services tailored specifically for seniors. With hands-on involvement in recruiting and orienting new staff, the director contributes to building a cohesive and motivated team. Additional duties include managing food inventories, maintaining equipment and safety standards, executing infection control protocols, and participating in sales and marketing activities to elevate community engagement. This role requires a blend of culinary expertise, leadership skills, and a commitment to delivering compassionate care through exceptional dining experiences. The position demands physical stamina and flexibility as it involves standing for extended periods, moving throughout the facility, and occasionally lifting heavy items. Job Requirements
- Associate's degree with culinary training or 3-5 years of culinary experience
- applicable state/county licensure
- food manager certification or ability to obtain
- ability to communicate effectively
- physical ability to walk, stand for extended periods, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, or balance
- ability to lift up to 50 pounds independently and up to 200 pounds with assistance
- commitment to follow infection prevention and control protocols
- willingness to participate in staff activities
- readiness to pursue ongoing education and training
- background check and drug screening clearance
- adherence to PPE protocols
- legal authorization to work
Job Qualifications
- Associate's degree with culinary training or 3-5 years of culinary experience
- applicable state/county licensure
- food manager certification or ability to obtain
- CPR or BLS certification preferred
- previous staff management and/or coaching and mentoring experience preferred
- experience in a senior living community preferred
- demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, web-based platforms, electronic health record systems, and HR-related systems
Job Duties
- Supervise 10-15 employees in the day-to-day presentation of dining services developed specifically for seniors
- schedule staff on an ongoing basis and provide coverage when unable to find necessary staff coverage
- maintain good communication with all vendors, community leadership, and regional dining services team
- support all catering, room service, special party needs, marketing functions
- maintain, order, and account for food inventories necessary to complete duties and keep food and supply costs within budget
- instruct all employees on the operation, maintenance, and cleaning of all kitchen equipment
- provide hands-on training to staff by exhibiting thorough knowledge of all food service positions
- demonstrate a working knowledge of all dining services shifts and be familiar with individual assignments and resident dining needs
- create recipes that are easy for dietary staff to follow
- handle food in a safe and appropriate manner
- recruit, orientate, and hire new dining service staff
- assist Executive Director with monthly staff in-service meetings and committees as appointed
- assist with Sales/Marketing procedures to develop and enhance satisfaction levels and participate in resident sales, tours, and community needs when required
- securely manage company credit card and file receipts timely
- maintain appropriate food temperatures by ensuring proper cooling/heating procedures and equipment functionality
- utilize basic mathematical concepts in practical situations
- maintain safety standards as outlined by Cedarhurst guidelines for infection control
- stay current with all food safety licensing requirements and ensure compliance
- work well with others, take direction from management, and engage in conflict intervention and resolution
- perform other duties as assigned
