The Food Runner role at Horseshoe is essential to ensuring that guests receive their meals promptly and with impeccable service. Although the position involves limited direct guest interaction, the Food Runner plays a critical behind-the-scenes role by coordinating between the kitchen staff and the dining room to deliver a seamless dining experience. The Food Runner is responsible for transporting food orders efficiently and accurately from kitchen to table, maintaining critical communication channels to ensure meal delivery meets the highest standards. Additionally, this role supports food servers, chefs, and managers in accommodating any special guest requests and contributes to maintaining cleanliness and organization within the kitchen and dining areas. The ideal candidate will have robust knowledge of menu items and specifications, enabling them to describe dishes confidently to guests upon delivery. They must also be physically capable of managing a fast-paced environment that includes standing for long periods, lifting trays up to 20 pounds, and working in varying conditions, including extreme heat.

This full-time position demands a proactive, team-oriented professional who is meticulous in attention to detail and committed to maintaining the operational flow of service stations and the kitchen line. The Food Runner is also tasked with ensuring that supplies in the beverage and condiment stations remain well-stocked throughout service, replenishing essentials like bread, butter, and beverages as needed. Additional responsibilities include processing guest payments via the Micros system, adjusting dining room tables, clearing and resetting tables promptly, and complying with all health and safety standards, including possessing a valid Food Handlers Card and Alcohol Awareness certification. Job Qualifications

  • Must possess basic reading skills
  • At least 1 year’s restaurant dining room experience
  • At least 6 months of gourmet restaurant dining room experience is preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Requires standing and walking continuously with a tray up to 20lbs throughout the shift
  • Must be able to lift and carry 20lbs
  • Must be able to work in extreme heat during the summer months
  • Must be able to stand for entire shift
  • Must be able to access service area when picking up beverage orders
  • Must be able to converse over the telephone in an environment with loud background noise
  • Must be able to stop, bend and reach
  • Must have the manual dexterity required to write drink orders, prepare drinks and garnishes and beverage orders
  • Must be able to listen and respond to visual and aural cues
  • Must be able to simultaneously handle the demands of many customers

Job Duties

  • Ensure that kitchen is properly cleaned and set up before, during and after each shift
  • Assist Food Servers, Chefs and Managers in accommodating guest needs and requests
  • Ensures that all kitchen station supply stock is maintained to par levels
  • Treats guests with courtesy and respect
  • Is at all times appropriately groomed and wears the uniform provided
  • Deliver all foods in the kitchen to the guests in dining room
  • Describe the main components of a dish upon delivery
  • Have complete knowledge of products and specifications
  • Assist the Front and Back servers in keeping the beverage and condiment stations supplied in condiments, sugar, coffee, tea, etc.
  • Replenish bread, butter, water, coffee and tea as needed during the meal
  • Able to expedite food line and use of Micros System
  • Able to process guest payments and ring up food orders
  • Adjust dining room tables
  • Able to work in extreme weather conditions
  • Assisting clearing and re-setting tables
  • Operate as a member of a team: help others and request help as needed
  • Perform assign side work
  • Transport used linens, China glassware and flatware from the kitchen to designated locations during the meal
  • Additional related duties as requested by the Front Waiter and/or Manager
  • Clear tables and stack scraped dishes in dish area
  • Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen and dining room floor
