Job Description
The Dining Facility Supervisor (DFS) role is a crucial position within the food service operations at the U.S. Coast Guard Station Seattle. This supervisory role encompasses managing and overseeing the work performed by employees under a specific federal contract Statement of Work (SOW). The hiring establishment is responsible for ensuring the efficient and safe operation of the galley and dining facilities, which includes food preparation, service, cleaning, and maintenance duties. The company operates as a specialized contractor providing comprehensive dining and kitchen services to a significant government facility, requiring adherence to stringent federal guidelines and high standards of quality control.
This employment opportunity is a full-time, in-person position compensated at $21.30 per hour, reflecting the specialized skill set and responsibility involved. The DFS must be present during all operational hours of the dining facility, ensuring constant supervision and support to the dining facility attendants and other crew members. This is a role that demands strong leadership and organizational skills, as well as exceptional attention to detail and dedication to maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming dining environment.
As a Dining Facility Supervisor, you will take charge of the day-to-day operations of the galley which involves a wide range of tasks such as food setup, service, kitchen cleanliness, and inventory management. You will lead the dining facility team by assigning tasks based on prioritization, delivering on-the-job training, and ensuring all safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment, are strictly followed. This leadership role requires initiative, problem-solving skills, and excellent communication to effectively coordinate with the USCG Contracting Officer Representative and to resolve any operational issues promptly.
Quality control is paramount, and as DFS, you will be responsible for conducting regular inspections of the galley upon opening, during operations, and closing. Maintaining high standards for food safety, cleanliness, and customer satisfaction are essential components of the role. You will oversee the proper handling of leftovers, cleanliness of food holding cabinets, dishwashing operations, and beverage dispensing stations.
The role also involves important administrative duties such as ensuring accurate timesheet completion, reporting injuries, conducting monthly safety meetings, and managing supply inventories. These tasks are vital to maintaining compliance with contract requirements and ensuring operational transparency and accountability.
Working in a fast-paced cafeteria environment, the DFS must be physically prepared for the demands of the job which include standing for long periods, mobility throughout the dining facility, and occasionally lifting or moving items up to 30 pounds. The environment involves exposure to sharp objects, cleaning chemicals, hot liquids, and mechanical equipment, making adherence to safety practices critical.
This position values candidates who are reliable with excellent attendance, highly detail-oriented, and capable of leading a team effectively. The minimum educational requirement is a high school diploma, with at least five years of experience in a large facility dining environment within the last ten years, including one year in a supervisory or assistant supervisory role. Military food service experience at pay grade E-7 or above may be credited as management experience. Background investigation clearance is required.
In summary, the Dining Facility Supervisor plays an essential leadership role in ensuring the smooth operation of food service at a key U.S. Coast Guard facility. The role offers the chance to work in a structured yet dynamic environment with a strong emphasis on team leadership, quality control, safety compliance, and customer service excellence.
