Job Description

About: The U.S. Coast Guard Station Seattle operates under federal contracts to provide critical food services that support the daily needs of Coast Guard personnel. As a government facility specializing in providing meal services to the military community, the Station emphasizes quality, safety, and operational efficiency within its dining facility. The dining operations are bound by strict USCG federal contract Statement of Work (SOW) requirements, ensuring that food services not only meet high standards of hygiene and safety but also foster a supportive and well-managed work environment. This government-contracted dining facility is designed to serve large groups, providing breakfast, lunch, and dinner services tailored to a cafeteria-style setting. The work environment is that of a bustling cafeteria with moderate noise levels and exposure to food preparation hazards, such as knives, hot liquids, and cleaning chemicals. The employment opportunity at this station is on-site and full-time, offering a steady hourly wage of $21.30, alongside a variety of benefits such as health and dental insurance, paid time off, and more to support employee well-being and job satisfaction.

The Role: The Dining Facility Supervisor (DFS) plays an essential leadership role in managing the daily operations of the galley at the U.S. Coast Guard Station Seattle. This supervisory position is responsible for overseeing the preparation, serving, and overall cleanliness of the kitchen and dining areas. The DFS ensures that all work complies with the specific SOW requirements outlined in the federal contract, maintaining high standards of food safety and quality control. In addition to overseeing operational duties, the supervisor leads a team of Dining Facility Attendants, coordinating schedules, delegating tasks, and providing on-the-job training to maintain smooth and efficient dining operations.

Key responsibilities also include handling administrative duties such as accurate recording of time sheets, incident reporting, supply inventories, and monthly safety meetings. The DFS must maintain a proactive approach to problem-solving, customer communication, and environmental safety ensuring that the dining services meet the expectations of the USCG Contracting Officer Representative. Physical stamina is a necessary attribute of this role, as the supervisor must be present throughout operational hours, ready to perform and assist with hands-on duties as needed within the dynamic cafeteria environment. Successful candidates will bring at least five years of relevant experience within large facility food service operations, including supervisory experience, and a commitment to delivering consistent, high-quality food services while fostering a positive team environment. The position also requires passing a background investigation, reflecting the sensitive nature of the work within a federal setting. Overall, this role offers a rewarding career with competitive pay, robust benefits, and the opportunity to support the vital mission of the U.S. Coast Guard through exceptional food service management.
