The Dining Attendant roles at Salemtowne encompass several key positions including those within Health Care and Assisted Living Centers, as well as in Independent Living and Catering Events. These roles are essential in supporting meal service and hospitality efforts across the campus. The Dining Attendant working in Health Care and Assisted Living Centers assists chefs, nutrition managers, and nursing staff to ensure that residents receive their meals timely and according to individual selections. The position includes responsibilities such as entering meal orders into a Point-of-Sale (POS) system, organizing food trays for delivery, maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards, and assisting with food safety and cost control.
For Dining Attendants serving in Independent Living and Catering Events, the role focuses on providing professional wait staff service including order taking, event setup, meal delivery, and ensuring a high-quality dining experience for residents and guests. Wait staff etiquette and attention to detail are critical for these positions, as attendants frequently interact with residents in dining rooms or guests at catered events. Responsibilities further include managing supplies, clearing tables, and maintaining a clean dining environment while supporting daily dining operations.

Job Requirements
- Capable of standing and walking short distances for extended periods of time
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull objects more than 50 pounds
- Stoop and bend at the knees, twisting from side to side at the waist
- Reach above, below, and at shoulder level
Job Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED preferred
- Five to eight years experience in Food Service industry preferred
- Good oral communication and interpersonal skills
- Possess and exhibit a strong positive attitude toward customer service and a genuine interest in geriatric care
- Proficient in reading, writing, and following written and verbal directions
- Uphold the utmost attention to cleanliness and detail towards sanitation in food service
- Ability to strive to do the best job possible and be accountable for one’s own actions
- Capability of handling routine problems effectively
- Willingness to comply with all food safety procedures and maintain a safety-first mindset
- Aptitude to know when to refer problems to supervisor
- Exceptional time management skills with the ability to multi-task and manage high-volume dish washing
Job Duties
- Provides wait staff service in the dining rooms by taking orders, entering orders into POS, capturing servery selected items in POS, seeing that meal selections are delivered accurately and following guidelines for wait staff etiquette
- Provides wait staff service including set-up and clean up for catering events by serving the catering menu, seeing that the event menu is delivered accurately for guests and following guidelines for wait staff etiquette
- Provides wait staff service including delivery for resident home meal delivery, POS entry, seeing that the order is delivered accurately and timely and following guidelines for wait staff etiquette
- Provides wait staff service in the servery including POS, bussing the area, replenishing supplies, checking out meal delivery tickets
- Performs pre-bussing services during a meal to provide a pleasant and uncluttered dining experience
- Performs post-meal breakdowns by clearing and sanitizing dining rooms and beverage stations and transporting dishware for washing
- Maintains clean and sanitary work areas by following sanitation guidelines set by the State and County Health Departments and by adhering to all posted daily and weekly cleaning schedules for the dining rooms, beverage stations and other areas as assigned
- Performs set-up, running, and breakdown side work for customer service, food and beverage, and supplies
- Maintains presence in the dining room and/or catering space, constantly observing tables to anticipate guest/resident needs
- Maintains daily awareness of special events, requests, and resident/guest needs by communicating with Supervisor, Hostess, Chefs
- Supports teamwork within the company by assisting departments with special requests and projects at the discretion of the supervisor
- Supports Salemtowne Shines culture and philosophy
- Performs other duties as assigned or as may be required to meet emergency situations
- Enters individual resident meal selections into Point-of-Sale as received from CNAs
- Places bulk orders based on individual meal sections and enters into the Point-of-Sale for kitchens without chefs
- Organizes hall trays, or assists Chef, for delivery by CNAs to the individual resident room
- Maintains or assists chef in cleaning and sanitizing work areas by following sanitation guidelines set by the State and County Health Departments
- Ensures that the snack cart is stocked and clean by monitoring quality of snacks and expiration dates
- Assists in controlling food cost by properly storing and labeling leftovers and monitoring waste
- Assists the Lead Dining Attendant in keeping nourishment areas stocked and sanitary by following posted par sheets and schedules
- Sets-up, clears and sanitizes dining rooms and serving areas and transports dishware for washing
