The role of Cook at Solaris HealthCare Charlotte Harbor is integral to the smooth operation of the kitchen and food service department. This full-time position, offering competitive pay along with a generous $500 sign-on bonus, focuses on preparing and serving nourishing and attractive meals in accordance with the specific dietary orders and nutritional needs of the residents. It requires a dedicated individual who can handle large-scale cooking operations while maintaining a high standard of food quality and safety. Applicants must be prepared to work weekends and undergo the Florida AHCA Clearinghouse background screening as part of employment eligibility.

The Cook's responsibilities include reviewing menus and production guides, preparing meals following standardized recipes, and using nutritionally equivalent substitutes when necessary. Proficiency in operating various kitchen equipment such as blenders, mixers, fryers, slicers, steamers, food processors, convection ovens, stoves, steam tables, and tilt skillets is essential. The cook will also be responsible for food preparation tasks like washing, peeling, cutting, and shredding vegetables and fruits, tasting food to ensure palatability, slicing portions of meat, and adding gravies, sauces, and garnishes as prescribed.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Ability to read and write
  • One to two years cooking experience preferred
  • Must be able to work full time including weekends
  • Must pass Florida AHCA Clearinghouse background screening
  • Prior experience in healthcare facility cooking preferred

  • Wash, peel, cut, and shred vegetables and fruits for use
  • Test and observe food by tasting for palatability
  • Slice meat portions for individual servings
  • Follow recipes carefully
  • Add gravies, sauces, and garnishes as required
  • Prepare and assist with special function meals
  • Complete work assignments
  • Maintain food safety standards
