The role of a Food Service Worker at The Miriam Hospital's Coffee Shop is integral to daily operations. This position is responsible for receiving, setting up, preparing, and serving a variety of food products to Coffee Shop customers, ensuring a welcoming and efficient experience. The Food Service Worker operates under direct supervision and follows established policies and procedures to maintain consistency and quality. This role requires managing inventory by assuring adequate supplies of food and non-food items are available to meet anticipated needs and checking the freshness of products through careful monitoring of date codes and temperatures.
Working in this position involves diverse tasks such as cashiering, cash control, food handling, simple cooking, dishwashing, and customer service. The worker is responsible for setting up coffee shop menu boards daily, programming and operating computerized cash registers, receiving pre-made and prepared food items from the main kitchen, and maintaining visually appealing food displays. Strict adherence to food handling sanitation techniques is essential to maintain health and safety standards.
The position requires effective interpersonal skills for interacting with customers and representing the Nutrition Services Department professionally. The employee must have the ability to read, write, and perform arithmetic calculations to handle cash transactions accurately and prepare food according to established recipes and standards. Physical demands include lifting moderately heavy supplies and standing for long periods, with safety procedures in place to minimize risks associated with food preparation such as cuts and burns.
This is a part-time position with a 4-hour shift from 4 to 8 pm, primarily during the day.
