Western PA School for Blind Children (WPSBC), located in Oakland, has been dedicated since 1887 to providing a unique and empowering educational experience for students with visual impairments. Serving approximately 200 students aged 3 to 22, WPSBC is structured into three main age groups: primary, middle, and secondary, ensuring tailored educational programming that supports the developmental stages and individualized needs of every student. We are currently seeking a dedicated Dietary Assistant to join the WPSBC Dietary Team. This role is integral to supporting the nutritional needs and overall wellbeing of our school community, including both students and staff. The Dietary Assistant will be scheduled to work Sunday through Thursday from 10:00am to 6:00pm, contributing to a vital service that ensures healthy and enjoyable meals and snacks are provided consistently. The position involves a variety of duties ranging from dishwashing and cleaning, to customer service in the staff dining room, and preparation of snacks specifically tailored for the students. Additionally, the role requires handling cash transactions responsibly and maintaining a clean, organized kitchen and dining environment to meet health and safety standards. Job Requirements
- Must be comfortable with lifting up to 50 pounds from the floor
- ability to lift and carry objects such as equipment, books, stacks of reports, etc, generally items weighing 20 pounds or less
- frequent reaching, bending, twisting, crouching, stooping, kneeling, crawling, sitting, and walking including up and down stairs
- communicate respectfully with multiple team members
- comply with established policies and other duties
- perform other responsibilities as assigned
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma
- serv safe certification (preferred not required)

- To scrape and wash dishes and trays
- to service students and staff with dietary needs
