The Server role at Harmony at Hockessin plays a vital part in the daily experience of residents and guests by providing courteous and attentive meal service. This position is responsible for assisting residents with placing orders, delivering beverages, and maintaining cleanliness and order in the dining area. The Server must possess a solid understanding of proper food handling, serving techniques, and basic food preparation. Responsibilities also include refilling condiments, reporting any damages or safety issues, and assisting with tray service when needed. The role requires attentiveness to the special needs of residents, including mobility issues and memory impairments, ensuring all interactions are conducted with respect, kindness, and professionalism.

This position demands a candidate who is organized, hardworking, and capable of working effectively within a team. The Server must be physically able to stand and walk for prolonged periods, lift heavy objects, and perform various duties such as sweeping and mopping. Effective communication skills and the ability to work under close supervision are essential. The schedule is flexible, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to meet the operational needs of the community. Job Requirements

  • Must be in clean designated uniform during working hours and maintain good personal hygiene
  • must be able to read and follow simple instructions
  • must possess ability to perform simple, repetitive tasks
  • must be able to learn quickly and apply learned principles
  • must be able to communicate effectively and work under close supervision
  • must be able to bend, reach, grasp, push and pull objects
  • must be able to stand and walk for sustained periods up to three hours at a time
  • must be able to lift 50 lbs on a regular basis and carry heavy objects for 20 feet
  • must be organized and willing to work well with other team members
  • must be willing to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings, weekends and holidays

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Assist residents when placing orders from the menu
  • provide beverage service including water, iced tea, juices, milk, coffee and tea
  • refill salt, pepper, and sugar bowls before and after each meal
  • report any broken equipment or tableware to supervisor
  • understand sit-down service and proper serving techniques
  • have a basic understanding of food preparation such as salads and desserts
  • know proper food storage and labeling techniques
  • sweep, mop, and vacuum kitchen and dining room
  • attend required in-services and staff meetings
  • complete all other assigned duties
  • be attentive to special needs of residents including mobility deficits and memory impairment
  • assist with tray service
  • follow confidentiality policies regarding release of resident information
  • interact politely and considerately with residents, guests, co-workers and supervisors
