The position of Diet Technician at Boston Children’s Franciscan, located in Brighton, MA, offers a full-time employment opportunity with an hourly compensation range from $20.00 to $22.00. This role is integral to supporting patient health by serving as a conduit between patients, nutritionists, kitchen staff, and other hospital departments. Centered around the needs of Franciscan Children’s Hospital, the Diet Technician ensures that patient meals meet precise nutritional and safety standards.

In this role, the Diet Technician operates in a fast-paced food service environment within a healthcare setting, where patient care and food safety are paramount. They maintain a positive and professional demeanor when interacting with patients, co-workers, and other hospital staff members, demonstrating adaptability to the dynamic needs of hospital patients. Responsibilities include reviewing patient meal selections, tallying menu items for kitchen preparation, and overseeing the patient tray line to ensure dietary accuracy and safety. The technician also maintains detailed knowledge of specialized dietary requirements, such as modified textures following IDDSI standards and food allergies, to ensure meals are prepared correctly and safely.

Collaboration is key as the Diet Technician works closely with registered dietitians, nurses, and the Food Services team. They perform critical tasks like logging food temperatures, completing test trays, and executing other regulatory functions mandated by Aramark food service quality and safety protocols. Additionally, they assist kitchen staff when necessary to meet patient needs, always upholding the privacy, safety, and dignity of patients by adhering to confidentiality and sanitation standards.

Adherence to Aramark's standards of operation and business conduct policies is essential, as well as maintaining records and reports to comply with relevant local, state, and federal regulations. This role requires flexibility and a proactive attitude, as duties may evolve to meet organizational or patient needs without formal notice. Overall, the Diet Technician is vital in ensuring that nutritious, safe, and high-quality meals are provided to patients, ultimately supporting their health and recovery.

This opportunity is designed for individuals currently enrolled in or graduates of undergraduate nutrition programs or related fields. Prior experience in customer service or food service is preferred, alongside skills such as basic Excel proficiency and the ability to remain calm under pressure. ServSafe certification is also favored. Candidates must be open to working some weekends and holidays and possess effective communication skills, with bilingual or multilingual abilities considered a plus.
