Headquartered in Reading, Pennsylvania, Penske prides itself on a commitment to excellence and customer success, serving a vital role in the transportation industry worldwide. Known for its strong leadership, operational excellence, and dedication to associate development, Penske offers career stability and growth opportunities through its dynamic and supportive work environment. The company’s South San Francisco location, among many others nationwide, embodies these values by maintaining high standards in vehicle maintenance and customer service.
The role of Technician I at Penske is a highly respected position that offers significant responsibility, growth, and the opportunity to work with a diverse range of modern truck and trailer equipment. This full-time position is based at 62 S Linden Ave, South San Francisco, CA, with working hours from Monday to Friday, 6:00 am to 2:30 pm, providing a competitive starting pay rate of $49.04 per hour. As a Technician I, you will be a lead technician and trusted expert at your location, performing preventative maintenance and repairs on Penske’s well-maintained fleet and various customer vehicles. You will independently diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair major components such as engines, transmissions, and differentials, including replacing assemblies when necessary. This role requires performing road tests and utilizing cutting-edge tools and diagnostic equipment to ensure safety and vehicle reliability are always prioritized.
Penske values safety, quality, and meticulous work standards. The Technician I is expected to keep their work area clean and safe, use Penske’s proprietary tools and technologies for logging and completing repairs, and continually learn and improve through the company’s certified technician training programs. Technicians are recognized for their expertise and leadership and are encouraged to mentor junior associates and contribute to a collaborative team environment. The position offers stability and growth with access to a comprehensive benefits package and ongoing career development through Penske’s Technician Certification Program, which is certified as a Continuing Automotive Service Education provider.
Working at Penske means joining a company that invests heavily in the training and development of its workforce, providing opportunities to work on various types of OEM equipment, and advancing skills through modern vehicle maintenance technologies. The ability to adapt and learn new skills is valued, with an emphasis on compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and Penske’s safety policies. Technicians must be physically capable of performing demanding tasks, including lifting heavy components and working safely at heights and in varying weather conditions. This role demands excellent problem-solving, communication, and customer service skills, as well as the ability to work well as part of a team. Penske’s commitment to a safe, respectful, and inclusive work environment makes it an ideal employer for experienced truck and trailer technicians looking to advance their careers in a stable, rewarding setting.
