The company emphasizes career development, competitive compensation, and a supportive work environment, making it an excellent choice for individuals who value growth and security in their professional lives.
The role of Diesel Mechanic at WM is designed for professionals seeking a stable, rewarding career in truck and equipment maintenance. As a Diesel Mechanic, you will play a critical role in ensuring the operational reliability and safety of a diverse fleet of vehicles and equipment that support WM's daily operations. This position offers competitive pay starting between $25 and $32 per hour, depending on experience, along with stable working hours to help maintain a healthy work-life balance. The typical work schedule consists of Monday to Friday shifts from 5:00 am to 3:00 pm with rotational Saturdays, based at the Quogue, NY hauling site.
In this role, you will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing diesel trucks and equipment, including advanced CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) vehicles that are part of WM's growing fleet. Your work will contribute directly to the safety and efficiency of services provided to the community, offering a unique sense of pride in supporting local needs. You will engage in repairing electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake, and air systems and estimating repair times and material costs accurately. As a Diesel Mechanic at WM, you will follow established standard labor times and maintain rigorous safety standards to protect yourself, your coworkers, and the public.
The company also focuses on fostering a team-oriented atmosphere where collaboration and individual initiative are valued. WM mechanics have opportunities to advance their skills by working on complex mechanical systems and participating in training initiatives. The role demands physical prowess and attention to detail, with an emphasis on maintaining a clean and safe workspace in compliance with OSHA standards. Additional benefits include a yearly boot reimbursement and a comprehensive insurance package covering medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and short-term disability. Financial benefits are further enhanced by a stock purchase plan and a 401(k) with company matching.
If you are a determined problem solver who thrives in a dynamic work environment and seeks a career with stability, growth, and meaningful impact, the Diesel Mechanic position at WM presents an outstanding opportunity. Join WM and become an essential contributor to a company that prioritizes its employees' safety, career progress, and family well-being, while making a tangible difference in your community.
