Diesel Mechanics at WM will work primarily at the Rochester, MN hauling site within a repair and maintenance shop setting, with stable hours scheduled Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm, plus occasional Saturdays. As a Diesel Mechanic at WM, you will be entrusted with inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing complex diesel vehicles and equipment that serve millions of customers nationwide. You will utilize modern tools and procedures to maintain diesel engines and, at some locations, the expanding fleet of compressed natural gas (CNG) trucks. Your daily responsibilities will include performing safety checks, responding to emergency breakdowns, estimating repair costs, completing necessary documentation, and assisting senior mechanics. Safety is paramount at WM, and you are expected to uphold stringent OSHA standards and maintain a clean, safe work environment. Job Requirements

  • Be over 18 years of age
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States
  • 2 years of relevant work experience
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to perform physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodations
  • Successfully complete and pass pre-employment drug screen and physical

Job Duties

  • Inspect, diagnose and repair electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems on a wide range of vehicles and equipment
  • Estimate time and material costs on vehicle repairs and new parts
  • Perform work within Standard Labor Repair Times (SRTs)
  • Respond to service calls for emergency breakdowns
  • Conduct safety checks on vehicles
  • Complete required paperwork documenting parts usage and repair times
  • Assist senior mechanics in project completion
  • Review, complete, or assign repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports
  • Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate and OSHA standards and established safety procedures
