Job Description

The American Heart Association (AHA), founded in 1924, is a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing deaths caused by cardiovascular diseases and promoting overall cardiovascular health. Over nearly a century, the AHA has successfully cut cardiovascular disease deaths in half, demonstrating its commitment and impact on public health. The organization continues to strive toward overcoming today’s biggest health challenges by accelerating progress in cardiovascular science, policy, and community care. The AHA focuses on inclusivity and equity, ensuring all individuals enjoy longer, healthier lives regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, or other personal characteristics. The AHA's mission, "to be a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives," guides its comprehensive initiatives, from education and research to advocacy and community engagement.

As a well-respected entity in health advocacy and research, the American Heart Association offers meaningful career opportunities for passionate professionals eager to make a real difference. The AHA fosters a vibrant workplace culture known as #TheAHALife, which emphasizes work-life balance, employee well-being, professional growth, and inclusivity. Employees have access to a wide range of resources, including the Heart U corporate university, employee resource groups, mentoring programs, and extensive wellness initiatives.

The Development Director role based in the Los Angeles County division plays a critical role in advancing the AHA's fundraising efforts through its signature Heart Walk campaign. This hybrid, full-time position blends remote work with onsite responsibilities at the Culver City office and requires an energetic, sales-driven approach to secure funding essential for the AHA's mission. The Development Director is tasked with generating revenue by cultivating corporate sponsorships and individual donor relationships, contributing directly to the success of the Los Angeles Heart & Stroke Walk and other associated events.

This position demands a proactive, collaborative professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The Development Director will maintain and grow a pipeline of prospective corporate sponsors, recruit and manage volunteer leadership teams, and coordinate corporate team participation and fundraising activities. The role also involves working alongside communications specialists to promote campaign messaging effectively and hosting engagement events for donors, including the Cor Vitae giving society. The position offers a base salary ranging from $70,725 to $83,000, with an incentive potential of up to 25% based on revenue targets — highlighting the rewarding nature of meeting and exceeding expectations.

The American Heart Association supports employee work-life harmonization through flexible working arrangements and generous paid time off policies, including 16 days of PTO annually, increasing with seniority, along with 12 paid holidays. An extensive benefits package includes medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance, retirement savings plans with employer match, employee assistance and wellness programs, telemedicine access, and tuition assistance for further professional development.

The Development Director position represents an opportunity to join a historic and dynamic organization dedicated to saving lives and improving health equity. By working at the AHA, employees become part of a collaborative, mission-focused culture that values innovation, impact, and the well-being of its workforce. This role invites candidates with expertise in fundraising, sales, and stakeholder engagement to contribute personally and professionally to an organization making a lasting impact on millions of lives worldwide.
