Job Description
HIV Alliance is a dedicated nonprofit organization committed to ending the HIV epidemic through prevention, care, and advocacy. Known for its comprehensive range of community-centered health services, HIV Alliance provides testing, treatment support, and educational outreach in Oregon and Southwest Washington. The organization’s mission centers on increasing access to HIV-related services for marginalized and underserved populations, fostering a compassionate and inclusive approach to healthcare, and driving impactful social change for those affected by HIV/AIDS. As a trusted community partner, HIV Alliance operates with a focus on collaboration, innovation, and equity, embodying a culture of respect and empowerment for clients, staff, partners, and volunteers alike.
The Development Director role at HIV Alliance is a full-time, exempt position that offers a competitive salary range between $75,192 and $84,468 annually. The position is either in-person or hybrid, with a dynamic work environment that supports flexibility while emphasizing engagement in local community initiatives. Bilingual candidates hold a unique advantage as they are eligible for an additional $1.50 per hour bilingual differential, which supplements the base salary. Additionally, exceeding fundraising goals can result in earned bonuses, providing further incentives for high-performing candidates.
As Development Director, you will play a pivotal leadership role responsible for crafting and executing strategic resource development plans to bolster HIV Alliance's fundraising efforts. Currently, the agency raises approximately $240,000 annually through individual, corporate, and event donations and seeks to increase this by 20 percent within the next year. This growth objective requires visionary leadership, innovative thinking, and strong stakeholder engagement skills. The Development Director will oversee a dedicated team responsible for event planning, marketing and communications, website management, and volunteer coordination to ensure that all development initiatives align with organizational goals.
This role requires a highly collaborative leader who can inspire staff, board members, and volunteers while maintaining a clear focus on donor engagement and stewardship. Responsibilities include developing regional strategies to connect with existing and potential donors, monitoring fundraising activities, and continuously evaluating effectiveness to ensure impact goals are met. The Director will champion a culture of accountability within the development team, support their professional development, and maintain open communications with the executive leadership.
The Director also has a critical role in integrating philanthropic efforts across the agency, working with other directors to identify and pursue grant opportunities, manage financial records, and contribute to the agency’s broader strategic planning. The Development Director acts as a liaison with the Board of Directors, actively engaging members in fundraising strategies and accountability processes, and collaborates with the Executive Director on recruiting and onboarding new board and committee members.
Stewardship forms a core part of this role, requiring the Development Director to build and nurture meaningful, long-term relationships with donors and volunteers to deepen support and increase giving. By representing the agency professionally both internally and in public forums, the Director must uphold HIV Alliance's values with integrity and professionalism. Strong communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage stress and multitask effectively are essential attributes for success.
This position demands a blend of strategic planning, operational oversight, and creative marketing expertise to drive growth in funding and community support. Candidates will be expected to bring a demonstrated history of success in fundraising, leadership, and program management, coupled with the ability to craft compelling messaging and dynamic marketing campaigns. This role is pivotal to advancing HIV Alliance’s mission and requires a proactive, motivated professional dedicated to making a measurable difference in the community.
