Job Description

The American Heart Association (AHA) is a renowned nonprofit organization dedicated to fighting cardiovascular diseases and stroke. Since its founding in 1924, the AHA has significantly reduced cardiovascular disease deaths by half, showcasing its commitment and impact on public health. The organization's mission is to be a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, or physical or cognitive abilities. The AHA continues to accelerate progress in overcoming today’s biggest health challenges by driving breakthroughs in science, policy, and care for healthier communities. With a firm foundation built over 100 years of trusted leadership, the AHA aims to ensure the greatest health discoveries reach everyone where they are, promoting health equity and inclusivity.

The AHA is currently hiring a Development Director based in Tulsa, Oklahoma. This is a full-time role offering a hybrid work schedule that combines office-based responsibilities with daily local travel. The Development Director will be entrusted with generating revenue for the Heart Walk fundraising campaign, which includes the AHA’s signature Heart Walk event. The role is designed for a highly motivated individual who thrives in a fast-paced, sales-driven environment and is passionate about advancing the organization’s mission.

The Development Director will have the main responsibility of driving revenue through corporate sponsorships and individual donations. To excel in this role, the candidate will cultivate and secure local partnerships by building and maintaining relationships with corporate sponsors and donors, matching campaign goals with the association's mission. This position also involves developing proposals to secure revenue and volunteer engagement, recruiting executive volunteer leadership and committees, planning events with key stakeholders, and supporting campaign communications. The role requires up to 75% local travel and the ability to engage with community leaders and corporate executives effectively.

This position offers a competitive base salary along with the potential to earn an incentive of up to 25% of the base pay, tied to revenue achievement targets. The AHA provides many resources to support work-life harmonization, including access to its award-winning corporate university, Heart U, and various employee resource groups and professional development programs. The association emphasizes a culture summarized by the #TheAHALife philosophy, where employees are seen, heard, and valued, fostering personal and professional growth. The benefits package includes comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance, disability and life insurance, retirement savings with employer match, wellness programs, paid time off, tuition assistance, and employee assistance programs. Working at the AHA means joining a passionate team committed to making a measurable impact on cardiovascular health and the lives of individuals in their communities.
