Job Description

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Foundation is a key philanthropic arm of MUSC, dedicated to supporting the university's mission through strategic fundraising and donor engagement efforts. Located in Charleston, South Carolina, the MUSC Foundation operates as part of the expansive MUSC system, which is a prominent academic medical center renowned for its patient care, research, and education. The foundation plays an essential role in enhancing the resources available for groundbreaking medical research, innovative educational programs, and superior clinical services. MUSC Foundation’s commitment to excellence, combined with its collaborative culture, makes it an attractive employer for individuals eager to contribute meaningfully to healthcare advancement and community wellbeing.

The Development Coordinator is an integral member of the MUSC Foundation team, working closely with Development Officers and leadership to facilitate comprehensive fundraising activities. This full-time salaried position is based at the Charleston campus, offering a stable and rewarding career opportunity within a health-focused not-for-profit organization. The Development Coordinator is entrusted with a variety of crucial responsibilities, including managing donor and prospect relationships, coordinating fundraising events, supporting administrative operations, and maintaining critical data systems. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic, team-oriented environment.

In this position, the Development Coordinator provides day-to-day operational support to Gift Officers by managing calendars, prioritizing meetings, and overseeing follow-up communications, thus ensuring streamlined fundraising workflows. The role also involves collaborating with physicians, department administrators, and Foundation staff to orchestrate donor engagement activities and fundraising initiatives. Additionally, the coordinator takes charge of travel arrangements, itinerary preparation, and expense processing to support efficient travel management for development personnel. Proficiency in using Raiser’s Edge or similar donor management systems, as well as project management tools, is critical to maintain accurate tracking, reporting, and seamless workflow execution.

Key functions of the role include preparing meeting materials, drafting correspondences and reports, and assisting in logistical arrangements for donor events such as tours, lunches, and stewardship meetings. The Development Coordinator also plays a vital role in donor relations by responding promptly to inquiries, coordinating stewardship communications including thank-you letters and recognition ceremonies, and supporting donor/student engagement programs. The position further extends to assisting with campaign support, including the creation and distribution of fundraising materials across various platforms and handling event logistics alongside volunteers and internal teams.

Ideal candidates will bring a blend of organizational skills, interpersonal effectiveness, and a passion for advancing the MUSC Foundation’s mission. Those with experience in development database management, strong writing abilities, and the capacity to work independently or collaboratively are best suited to thrive.
