Job Description

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is a renowned global humanitarian organization dedicated to responding to some of the world's most severe crises. Founded in 1933 at the call of Albert Einstein, the IRC operates in over 40 countries and 29 U.S. cities, providing aid and support to individuals and families affected by conflict and disaster. As one of the largest international humanitarian non-governmental organizations (INGO), the IRC focuses on restoring health, safety, education, economic wellbeing, and empowerment to displaced populations. Through a comprehensive approach, IRC's dedicated staff work tirelessly to help people survive, reclaim control of their futures, and strengthen their communities. The organization is driven by core values of integrity, service, equality, and accountability, ensuring ethical and effective delivery of humanitarian assistance.

Within this impactful context, the Development Coordinator role based in Phoenix, Arizona, plays a crucial part in the IRC's mission. This position is integral to the Arizona Development Team, responsible for fostering local engagement among individuals, community groups, faith-based organizations, and businesses in welcoming and supporting refugees. The Development Coordinator's work centers around private fundraising alongside the management of volunteer and in-kind donation programs specific to the Phoenix office. Collaborating closely with the Development Director in Arizona, this role helps maintain Match requirements, meet fundraising goals, and enhance donor engagement. A key element of the position involves ensuring the office has robust volunteer and intern support and expanding access to in-kind donations for clients.

The role mandates a dynamic and collaborative approach to encouraging donor cultivation and recognition through integrated fundraising strategies that align with the IRC headquarters' Development and External Relations team. Engagement with the Community Engagement and Advocacy team is instrumental in expanding partnerships, particularly with faith-based and local community groups. Moreover, the Development Coordinator is responsible for organizing the volunteer and intern program from recruitment and onboarding to training, retention, and recognition, fostering a positive and knowledgeable volunteer base.

Maintaining meticulous volunteer records, including policies, procedures, and compliance aspects such as criminal background checks, forms a critical administrative function. The position also requires coordinating with the Operations team to implement strategies for acquiring in-kind donations and organizing donation drives tailored to client needs. Additionally, conducting and overseeing donation events and fundraising campaigns is a vital component of the role, as is representing the IRC at public events such as fairs and festivals to promote the agency's mission.

Working in a multicultural and multilingual environment, the Development Coordinator must demonstrate exceptional communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. The role requires adaptability, the ability to manage multiple priorities independently, and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. English fluency is required, and experience with using interpreters is advantageous. The job may involve some remote work with field visits within the service delivery area and occasional evening or weekend commitments.

Compensation for the role is competitive, typically starting around $26.78 per hour, reflecting factors such as labor market conditions, individual qualifications, and internal equity considerations. Furthermore, the IRC offers a highly competitive benefits package, including paid parental leave, generous time off, comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance options, flexible spending accounts, a 403b retirement plan with immediate matching, and employee assistance programs supporting mental health and crisis counseling.

The IRC is dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion, encouraging applications from candidates who align with these values. It is an equal opportunity employer and complies with all laws providing reasonable accommodations for applicants with disabilities. Commitment to professional standards and safeguarding principles is central to the organization's culture, making the Development Coordinator position not only a job but a meaningful opportunity to contribute to global humanitarian efforts at a local level.
