Job Description
The Tennessee Fund, a pivotal organization within the University of Tennessee's athletics department, is dedicated to advancing its athletic programs through donor engagement, stewardship, and event management. As a key component of the university's fundraising and development efforts, the Tennessee Fund supports collegiate athletic excellence by fostering strong relationships with donors, alumni, and fans. The fund plays an essential role in securing financial resources that enhance the experience and success of NCAA Division I sports teams. The Tennessee Fund operates within a dynamic and competitive collegiate athletic environment, emphasizing innovation, collaboration, and impact in all its initiatives.
The Tennessee Fund is currently seeking a highly self-motivated individual to join the team as a Development Assistant for a one-year assistantship beginning in August 2026. This position offers a valuable opportunity for candidates interested in pursuing a career in collegiate athletics development, stewardship, or related fields. The Development Assistant will gain hands-on experience working closely with the Assistant Athletics Director of Development, Stewardship & Signature Events to implement creative donor stewardship initiatives and execute exclusive events for high-level donors. A Bachelor’s degree is required, or candidates must be pursuing their degree with the intention to graduate by July 2026. Preferred qualifications include a Master’s degree and experience in collegiate athletics development, event planning, or stewardship.
This role demands strong organizational, communication, and computer skills, including proficiency with phone operations and demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects efficiently. The Development Assistant will be expected to work approximately 40 hours per week with occasional weekend and after-hours commitments, especially during game days and special events. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing excellent customer service to donors and guests both in the office and at various athletics events. By participating in the planning and execution of shareholder society events and other donor-recognition activities, the Development Assistant will build meaningful relationships with donors and help enhance the overall donor experience within the Tennessee Fund.
This one-year assistantship offers a salary starting at $31,200 and is classified as a non-exempt hourly position with the possibility of overtime pay. It provides an exceptional career stepping stone, as previous assistants have secured full-time roles at prestigious NCAA Division I institutions including the University of Tennessee, Clemson, Michigan State, NC State, Northwestern, LSU, Oklahoma, and Tulane. This assistantship aims to provide first-hand experience in a collegiate development office and to develop the necessary skills for succeeding in full-time collegiate fundraising careers. If you have a passion for sports, donor relations, and event planning with a goal of advancing your professional development in collegiate athletics fundraising, this position offers an enriching path to achieve those ambitions.
