The opportunity presented is for seasonal Dessert Cooks at Comerica Park, Detroit, Michigan. As a Dessert Cook, you will be a highly visible leader within the kitchen team, responsible for dessert preparation and delivering exceptional culinary products. This position requires partnering with management to plan menus, maintain quality standards, and train kitchen staff. Your role will include operating kitchen equipment, adhering to health and sanitation regulations, and monitoring food quantities and related costs. The position offers an hourly wage of $17.70 and includes a comprehensive benefits package designed to support your personal and professional well-being. In this role, you will prepare a variety of dessert items such as cakes, pies, and other baked goods, ensuring all food products meet proper portion sizes, temperature control, freshness, and quality standards. Working closely with the Head Chef, you will contribute to the development of new dessert menu items. Maintaining cleanliness, organization, and sanitation of your workstation and kitchen storage is essential. You will also follow waste control guidelines and assist with opening, closing, and side work duties, including end-of-day inventory. This position is physically active, requiring the ability to lift up to 35 pounds, stand and walk throughout the shift, and perform manual food preparation techniques. Shifts include evenings, weekends, and events at Comerica Park, offering a vibrant work atmosphere in one of Detroit's most beloved sports venues. Job Requirements

  • At least 2 years of previous experience in a back-of-the-house food-service position
  • Ability to read and comprehend prep sheets and recipes
  • Basic math skills, with the ability to calculate and follow recipe measurements
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs to and from freezers and ovens, reach up to seven feet, twist, bend, and squat
  • Standing and walking for the entire length of shift in moderate to high noise levels
  • Manual ability to chop, mix, blend, whip a variety of foods and liquids and operate kitchen equipment
  • Exposed to variable temperatures

  • Basic math skills, with the ability to calculate and follow recipe measurements

Job Duties

  • Review menus and customer orders to determine type and quantities of food to be prepared and comply with all portion sizes, quality standards, department rules, policies, and procedures, ensuring proper food temperatures are maintained, food is stored correctly, the freshness and quality of all menu items, and packages all products to proper specifications
  • Work with our Head Chef to help develop new dessert menu items
  • Prepare dessert items like cakes, pies, and other various baked goods
  • Keep workstation, coolers, and equipment clean, organized, sanitized, and sufficiently stocked, as well as maintaining the kitchen and storage facilities in a sanitary condition
  • Use waste control guidelines and record all waste on the spoilage sheet
  • Perform opening, closing, and side work duties and end-of-day inventory in accordance with guidelines
