The Starbucks Department Manager at Safeway acts as a primary contact for customers, overseeing the Starbucks section within the Safeway store. This role involves managing barista staff, ensuring a high level of customer service, maintaining product quality, and achieving financial and operational goals for the department. The manager is responsible for increasing sales, improving gain, and controlling costs while following division guidelines for merchandising. Duties include training and scheduling barista clerks, managing inventory and stock, processing orders, brewing coffee, tea, and other beverages, and maintaining cleanliness and organization of the coffee service area. The role also requires operation of cash registers, resolving customer issues, and providing quality financial reporting to store management and field supervisors. This position demands constant engagement in customer service-focused activities, physical mobility including standing and walking, and handling kitchen equipment. The Starbucks Department Manager must uphold the company’s customer service standards, lead the department effectively, and contribute to a positive customer experience that reflects Albertsons Companies’ core values and commitment to excellence.
This is a full-time role within a retail environment that requires operational, supervisory, and customer service expertise. The work environment is primarily indoors with occasional exposure to cleaning chemicals, and the job involves moderate physical demands such as lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, standing, walking, and occasional climbing. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- prior customer service experience preferred
- ability to interact well with customers and staff
- basic computer skills for order entry
- ability to follow company policies and procedures
- strong communication skills
- prior management experience is a plus
- ability to work flexible hours including weekends
- ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- ability to lift and carry up to 20 lbs
- willingness to adhere to safety and cleanliness standards

Job Duties
- Provide customer service as currently defined by the employer within the scope of the position and within company policy
- speak with customers to resolve problems with sales, dissatisfaction of service, or other problems related to the operation of the department
- train, schedule, and supervise barista workers to ensure optimum staffing patterns for the department
- provide financial reporting to Store Manager and Field Supervisor
- ensure product quality
- change signs and prices as directed by merchandising
- write order in the order guidebook and enter into computer
- check order for completeness upon arrival
- brew coffee, tea and chocolate
- operate electronic cash register to total customers' final bill, receive payment for customer purchase and count back correct change
- maintain cleanliness of coffee service area of the store
- set up and maintain displays in coffee area
- replace stock in preparation area from supply area
- other duties as assigned
