Job Description
This position is for a Department Manager in Training at a McDonald's franchise restaurant, a leading global fast-food chain known for its commitment to quality, exceptional customer service, and community involvement. McDonald's is one of the most recognized brands worldwide, with a strong presence in the quick service restaurant industry. The franchisee operates this restaurant independently, taking full responsibility for employment matters, hiring, and management, while upholding McDonald's standards and values. The environment at McDonald's is famously fast-paced and team-oriented, offering employees opportunities for growth, training, and advancement while maintaining a commitment to flexible scheduling and inclusive, supportive workplace culture.
The Department Manager in Training role is ideal for candidates who have prior experience as an Assistant Manager or as a long-term Shift Leader, particularly in quick service restaurants, hospitality, or retail environments. This role requires individuals who are at least 18 years old and are passionate about leading teams, driving operational excellence, and delivering outstanding customer experiences. In this position, you will lead shifts alongside Shift Leaders, oversee a specific department within the restaurant, and manage various operational systems and processes. You will be responsible for setting goals, delegating tasks, motivating team members, following up on responsibilities, creating action plans to enhance restaurant performance, and training employees.
There are three key Department Manager roles within each restaurant: Guest Service, Kitchen, and People Department Managers. The Guest Service Department Manager ensures that crew members and managers provide an exceptional customer experience, execute limited-time offers with excellence, train service staff, engage with community initiatives, maintain cleanliness, and oversee maintenance of equipment. The Kitchen Department Manager focuses on delivering high-quality food quickly, managing food safety and costs, conducting inventory counts, placing orders, training kitchen staff, and ensuring cleanliness and equipment maintenance. The People Department Manager leads recruitment, onboarding, retention, scheduling, crew and manager training, executing monthly morale activities, fostering a positive workplace culture, and maintaining cleanliness and equipment upkeep.
This role is vital to the restaurant's operational success as you will lead important internal functions such as employee training, food safety, and inventory management. You will be result-oriented, delegating tasks effectively and reporting outcomes to support the General Manager in achieving restaurant performance and quality goals within your specific department. Success as a Department Manager requires a commitment to workplace excellence and safety, strong customer service skills, effective communication, anticipation of customer needs, problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to make decisions swiftly in a fast-paced environment.
McDonald's offers competitive pay, a bonus program, a 6% 401K match, flexible scheduling, paid time off, tuition reimbursement or educational assistance, training and advancement opportunities, employee discounts and free meals, health, dental, vision, and life insurance, short- and long-term disability coverage, and discount offers from partner brands through MCDPERKS.com. The franchise emphasizes an inclusive workplace that values diversity and provides reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities throughout the application and employment process. This position offers a unique opportunity to develop leadership skills and grow within a globally recognized restaurant brand while contributing to an energized team focused on delivering excellent dining experiences.
