Job Description

This position is for the Host/Hostess role, reporting directly to both the General Manager and Restaurant Manager. The Host/Hostess serves as the first point of contact for guests, greeting and seating them with excellent hospitality and a friendly attitude. The role involves managing guest seating efficiently while maintaining a clean and organized dining area. The Host/Hostess is also responsible for addressing guest concerns promptly and courteously to ensure total guest satisfaction throughout their dining experience.

The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate professionalism and a proactive attitude. Key responsibilities include managing the waiting list, seating guests using proper rotation methods, suggesting promotions, and taking initial beverage orders. The Host/Hostess will also manage transactions, including cash handling and credit card payments, following strict company policies to ensure accuracy and security. In addition, they will assist service personnel with beverage refills, table clearing, and resetting to promote smooth and efficient service.

Physical demands of the role include the ability to lift and carry items up to 30 lbs, stand and walk for extended periods, as well as perform tasks like bending, stooping, and reaching. Effective communication skills, both oral and written, in English are essential to interact with guests and team members effectively. The position operates within Denny's brand standards and internal policies to maintain consistency in service delivery.

Job Requirements

  • Must have ability to raise a tray weighing up to 25 lbs
  • must be able to bend, stoop, reach, wipe, lift, and grasp
  • must have sufficient mobility to move and operate in work area
  • must be able to stand and walk during entire shift
  • must be able hear well in a loud environment to respond to employee and guest needs
  • must possess basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply and divide)
  • must meet any state, county or municipal regulation pertaining to health risk concerns about food handling
  • must be able to observe and differentiate between monetary denominations
  • must be able to operate point of sale system
  • must be able to work around potentially hazardous chemicals

Job Duties

  • Greet guests immediately in a friendly manner upon arrival and acknowledge at departure
  • demonstrate a sense of urgency and meet service cycle timing standards
  • seat guests at clean, dry tables utilizing proper seating rotation
  • determine and provide for any special needs of guests
  • maintain guest waiting list and adhere to proper seating order procedures
  • describe promotions and suggestively sell while seating guests
  • take initial beverage order
  • attend to any other guest needs during the entire dining experience as warranted
  • demonstrate safe cash handling procedures and accurately complete cash, credit card, and discount transactions
  • use proper telephone etiquette
  • enter and deliver 'To Go' orders correctly
  • address complaints promptly in a courteous manner and notify the supervisor of any issues
  • assist service personnel in providing beverage orders and refills and clearing and setting tables
  • willingly assist other team members without being asked
  • maintain proper supply of clean menus
  • lift and carry supplies and equipment up to 30 lbs
  • demonstrate knowledge of station and floor breakdowns
  • possess strong product and menu knowledge
  • maintain foyer area of restaurant to be clean, organized and inviting to guests
  • complete all required side-work including deep cleaning assignments
  • adhere to Denny's Brand Standards and internal policies and procedures
  • provide courteous service and be cordial to all team members and guests
