The Host/Hostess position at Denny's plays a crucial role in ensuring a positive guest experience from the moment customers arrive until their departure. Reporting to the General Manager and Restaurant Manager, the Host/Hostess acts as the restaurant's first point of contact, greeting and seating guests in a friendly and courteous manner. The Host/Hostess is responsible for maintaining an organized waiting list, managing seating rotations to maximize table utilization, and addressing any guest concerns promptly and professionally.
In addition to greeting and seating guests, the Host/Hostess assists with taking initial beverage orders, describing promotions, and supporting other service personnel as needed throughout the dining experience. This includes helping with clearing and setting tables, delivering "To Go" orders accurately, and handling cash and credit card transactions with proper procedures to ensure accuracy and security. The ability to work collaboratively with team members while maintaining a clean and inviting foyer area is essential.
Physical endurance is important in this role, as the Host/Hostess must be able to stand and walk throughout their shift, lift and carry supplies weighing up to 30 pounds, and perform various tasks such as bending, stooping, and reaching. Strong product and menu knowledge is vital to assist guests effectively and to suggestively sell menu items. This position also demands adherence to Denny’s brand standards and internal policies, ensuring consistency in service and operations. Job Requirements
- Must have ability to raise a tray weighing up to 25 lbs
- Must be able to bend, stoop, reach, wipe, lift, and grasp
- Must have sufficient mobility to move and operate in work area
- Must be able to stand and walk during entire shift
- Must be able to hear well in a loud environment to respond to employee and guest needs
- Must possess basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply and divide)
- Must meet any state, county or municipal regulation pertaining to health risk concerns about food handling
- Must be able to observe and differentiate between monetary denominations
- Must be able to operate point of sale system
- Must be able to work around potentially hazardous chemicals

Job Duties
- Greet guests immediately in a friendly manner upon arrival and acknowledge at departure
- Demonstrate a sense of urgency and meet service cycle timing standards
- Seat guests at clean, dry tables utilizing proper seating rotation
- Determine and provide for any special needs of guests
- Maintain guest waiting list and adhere to proper seating order procedures
- Describe promotions and suggestively sell while seating guests
- Take initial beverage orders
- Attend to any other guest needs during the entire dining experience as warranted
- Demonstrate safe cash handling procedures in accordance with policy and accurately complete cash, credit card, and discount transactions
- Use proper telephone etiquette
- Enter and deliver To Go orders correctly
- Address complaints promptly in a courteous manner and notify the supervisor of any issues
- Assist service personnel in providing beverage orders and refills and clearing and setting tables
- Willingly assist other team members without being asked
- Maintain proper supply of clean menus
- Lift and carry supplies and equipment up to 30 lbs
- Demonstrate knowledge of station and floor breakdowns
- Possess strong product and menu knowledge
- Maintain foyer area of restaurant to be clean, organized and inviting to guests
- Complete all required side-work including deep cleaning assignments
- Adhere to Denny's Brand Standards and internal policies and procedures
- Provide courteous service and be cordial to all team members and guests
