Job Description
Commonwealth Joe Coffee Roasters (CWJ) is a premier specialty coffee company based in the DMV area, known for delivering award-winning cold brew coffee to workplaces, homes, and various venues where people live, work, and play. At the heart of its operations lies a flagship café located in Arlington, VA, a roastery and brewery in Beltsville, MD, and a remote corporate team that supports CWJ's cold brew on tap program nationwide. The company proudly holds the distinction of being the number one cold brew company sold in kegs and serves more than 500,000 coffee enthusiasts across 25 states. Commonwealth Joe is committed to craftsmanship and community, positioning its cold brew as a staple for coffee lovers in workplaces and homes alike.
Commonwealth Joe believes in making exceptional coffee approachable and accessible for everyone. The team is a passionate group of coffee lovers with diverse backgrounds, all united by a shared dedication to upholding CWJ's core values in every interaction—whether with each other, their customers, or the wider community. The company's commitment to quality, service, and growth shines through every dimension of its business, from production to customer experience.
The role of Delivery Technician (Level 2) is a pivotal position within CWJ, representing the next step of autonomy and responsibility in the company's five-tier Delivery Career Development Roadmap. This full-time, in-person role is based out of the Beltsville, MD roastery and brewery, with routes covering the DC, Maryland, and Virginia area. Starting pay ranges from $22 to $25 per hour, with a clearly published path to earning $30 or more per hour as performance and expertise grow. Typical work schedule is five days per week (Monday through Friday), with some flexibility to work four days weekly.
Delivery Technicians are the frontline ambassadors of Commonwealth Joe, serving as the most frequent point of contact between the brand and customers. This role requires delivering full solo routes, handling complex keg system installations and services, and independently resolving technical issues in the field. These technicians are entrusted to operate alone in the truck, making autonomous decisions that directly impact customer satisfaction and retention.
In this role, technicians are empowered to own every aspect of their routes—from ensuring inventory accuracy and reporting to carrying common replacement parts for on-the-spot repairs. The ability to troubleshoot and fix issues immediately rather than escalating them is fundamental to building customer trust and ensuring account renewal. The role also involves supporting the onboarding of new drivers and maintaining operational efficiency and consistency across routes.
Advancement at Commonwealth Joe is merit-based and transparent. Every tier has defined responsibilities, measurable criteria for growth, and published pay bands, so employees always know where they stand and what they need to reach the next level. Technicians receive quarterly scorecards reviewed with their managers one-on-one, creating continuous feedback and clear goals. The position offers genuine career growth, with progression pathways leading to Senior Delivery Technician, Lead Driver, and salaried Operations Leader roles.
For those who are motivated by technical challenges, customer interaction, and career development in a dynamic and mission-driven specialty coffee company, the Delivery Technician Level 2 position represents a rewarding opportunity. The technician’s hands-on problem-solving approach, punctuality, organizational skills, and professionalism are key traits that drive success in this role. Experience with solo delivery routes, mechanical skills, and a commitment to excellent customer service will ensure you thrive at Commonwealth Joe while contributing meaningfully to the company’s continued growth and leadership in the cold brew coffee market.
