Job Description
Commonwealth Building Materials, Inc., a subsidiary of SRS Distribution Inc., is a national building materials distributor known for its commitment to high-quality products and exceptional service. With locations across the United States, the company serves a wide range of customers, specializing in the distribution of building materials such as drywall, lumber, and roofing products. Commonwealth Building Materials takes pride in supporting the construction industry with reliable delivery and expert assistance, ensuring contractors and builders have access to the materials they need to complete their projects efficiently and effectively.
The company fosters a work culture that values diversity, inclusion, and professional development. Employees are considered the organization's greatest asset, and there is a strong emphasis on providing comprehensive training and support to promote career growth. Commonwealth Building Materials offers competitive wages along with a robust benefits package to ensure a balanced work-life environment for its team members.
The position of Delivery Helper at Commonwealth Building Materials is a vital role responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate delivery of building materials to various job sites. The role primarily involves loading materials onto trucks, navigating to and locating job sites, unloading materials safely, and assisting with the preparation and restoration of the job sites. Additionally, the Delivery Helper is expected to maintain the cleanliness and readiness of the truck and equipment for subsequent use.
This role demands a high level of responsibility to comply with company policies as well as state and federal safety regulations, particularly those related to OSHA and DOT standards. The employee must perform thorough pre-trip inspections to verify equipment and loaded products, ensuring the correctness of orders prior to delivery. Onsite, the Delivery Helper coordinates unloading, secures materials such as mud, equipment, metal, and pallets on the truck, and navigates efficient routes to meet schedule demands.
Candidates must demonstrate strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact professionally with coworkers and customers. Physical stamina is essential since the position requires lifting heavy materials up to 100 pounds, constant movement, standing for extended periods, and working outdoors regardless of weather conditions. This role fosters an inclusive working environment by encouraging teamwork, servant leadership principles, and respect for diverse perspectives.
The Delivery Helper must be self-motivated and able to work independently or collaboratively within a team. Managing stress, prioritizing tasks, meeting deadlines, multitasking efficiently, and exercising sound judgment are key cognitive requirements. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking to grow their career within the building materials industry, supported by a company that provides ongoing training, competitive pay (ranging from $0 to $25 per hour based on experience and other factors), overtime eligibility, performance incentives, and a variety of non-financial benefits.
Based in Norfolk, VA, the position contributes directly to the operational success of Commonwealth Building Materials by ensuring customer satisfaction through timely, safe, and accurate deliveries. The company embraces equal employment opportunities and provides reasonable accommodations in compliance with federal and local laws.
