Job Description
US Foods is one of the largest food distributors in the United States, known for its strong presence in the foodservice industry. The company prides itself on a culture of promoting from within, offering excellent training programs and a continuous improvement focus to support employee growth and development. With a commitment to safety, quality, and customer satisfaction, US Foods has built a reputation as a leader in delivering food products efficiently and reliably to its customers.
The role of Delivery Driver at US Foods is a critical position within their transportation team. This position offers competitive compensation, with drivers earning $35.63 per hour plus component pay based on factors such as cases handled, mileage, and the number of stops made. Delivery Drivers at US Foods play a vital role in maintaining the company's high standards of service through safe, timely deliveries and exceptional customer interactions. The company fosters a strong safety culture, and drivers are expected to participate in safety teams and adhere strictly to safety protocols. Additionally, new drivers receive thorough onboarding and ongoing training, including opportunities for offsite development, which demonstrates US Foods’ commitment to investing in its workforce.
The role requires drivers to not only deliver products but also engage in activities such as training and mentoring new drivers, performing customer site visits to verify delivery feasibility, and working closely with warehouse supervisors. Drivers must complete company-mandated training programs and assessments, including the US Foods Driver Onboarding program. The physical demands of the job include lifting and carrying products that weigh between 20 to over 80 pounds, working in varied weather conditions, and making frequent stops throughout each shift. Professionalism and exemplary customer service skills are essential as drivers are often the key point of contact for customers.
To be successful in this role, candidates must meet several important qualifications and requirements. They must be at least 21 years old, hold a valid CDL Class A license issued by their state of residence with the necessary endorsements and DOT qualifications, and have a minimum of six months commercial driving experience or at least three months experience in food and/or beverage delivery. Ability to operate a manual transmission vehicle is preferred but not mandatory. US Foods also requires drivers to register with the FMCSA Clearinghouse, a secure database that tracks CDL holders’ drug and alcohol program violations, which underscores the company’s commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.
US Foods offers robust benefits to its employees, including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), life insurance, and various disability coverage options. Their strong leadership and supportive work environment make this an appealing career opportunity for experienced CDL drivers seeking stability, growth, and the chance to be part of a respected leader in the foodservice distribution industry. US Foods invites prospective candidates to join their transportation team and contribute to their mission of delivering quality food products safely and efficiently across the country.
