Job Description
Performance Foodservice, a division of Performance Food Group (PFG), is a leading broadline foodservice distributor committed to delivering high-quality food products and exceptional customer service across various sectors, including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. This establishment stands out not only for its expansive product offerings but also for its dedicated team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other industry experts who work closely with customers to provide valuable insights on operational improvements, menu development, product selection, and business strategies. By fostering strong relationships with local customers, Performance Foodservice supports independent restaurant owners and other foodservice operators in achieving their business goals while delivering delicious food to their communities.
This position is an entry-level driver training role designed for individuals with minimal to no commercial driving experience—specifically those with 0 to 12 months of CDL commercial driving experience. The role offers a competitive annual salary ranging from $80,000 to $90,000 after the completion of training. It features a Monday through Friday schedule, ensuring drivers return home daily, which helps maintain a healthy work-life balance. The primary responsibility involves learning to operate tractor trailers or straight trucks for intrastate or interstate deliveries on various routes, including local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight deliveries.
During the training period, drivers are expected to adhere strictly to all company policies and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations to perform their duties safely and effectively. The role demands professionalism in all interactions with customers, vendors, and coworkers, ensuring that customer service standards and preferred work methods are maintained at all times. Trainees work closely with driver trainers, attending and successfully completing the PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program, and assisting in deliveries as required to gain hands-on experience.
Core duties include performing safety inspections on tractors, trucks, and trailers both pre- and post-trip, driving and delivering food products according to pre-established schedules, unloading and delivering products to designated storage areas, handling customer returns, documenting deliveries accurately, and maintaining cleanliness in the work environment. Drivers must also accurately maintain and submit daily records of hours of service and comply with all federal, state, and company regulations concerning commercial driving safety.
Performance Foodservice prides itself on providing a safe and inclusive working environment that fosters a culture rooted in rewards, recognition, and respect. Employees benefit from a comprehensive package of perks from day one, including health and wellness benefits, an employee stock purchase plan, employer-matched 401(k) retirement savings, education assistance, paid time off, and various other growth opportunities within the organization. This entry-level driver training role is a vital function in supporting America’s food distribution system by ensuring timely and safe delivery of essential food products to customers. The company is committed to equal employment opportunity, maintaining a diverse and inclusive workplace in line with all applicable laws and guidelines.
