This particular role is a crucial one within Core-Mark's logistics and supply chain operations—Food and Food Service Delivery Driver based in Farmingdale, New York, primarily delivering to Long Island. This position is vital to the continuity of the nation’s food supply chain, ensuring that products arrive punctually and intact while embodying the company’s customer service values. Delivery Drivers in this role operate tractor trailers or straight trucks on various routes, including local, interstate, shuttle, overnight, and drive-and-drop deliveries. The work schedule involves five days a week with early morning start times between 3 a.m. and 7 a.m., and importantly, drivers return home every night.

Beyond the driving duties, the role requires being the face of Core-Mark to customers, forging and maintaining lasting relationships through professionalism, communication, and reliability. Drivers uphold rigorous safety checks, comply with Department of Transportation regulations, and perform necessary inspections to ensure vehicles meet company standards. Responsibilities encompass loading and unloading merchandise, performing damage control, managing delivery paperwork meticulously, and adhering to protocols for freight security and proper documentation. Drivers also contribute to maintaining cleanliness and organization of vehicles and loading dock areas, underscoring the company’s commitment to safety and operational excellence.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent
  • At least six months of commercial driving experience
  • Possess a valid CDL-A license
  • Be 21 years of age or older
  • Meet all required state licensing or certification
  • Maintain a clean motor vehicle report for the past three years
  • Successfully pass a post-offer drug test and criminal background screening
  • Pass a road test
  • Hold or be able to obtain a valid DOT health card
  • Ability to hand-lift product cases ranging from 10 to 90 pounds and use equipment like two-wheeler and lift gate

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent
  • Six or more months commercial driving experience
  • Valid CDL-A license
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
  • Clean motor vehicle report for the past three years
  • Pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
  • Pass road test
  • Attain or have a valid current DOT health card or be able to secure a new DOT health card
  • Ability to hand-lift and utilize equipment such as two-wheeler and lift gate to move or stack product cases of varying size and weight

Job Duties

  • Perform all required safety checks including pre/post trip inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation regulations
  • Inspect tractor/truck and trailer to ensure they meet company safety standards and take appropriate action as needed
  • Report all safety issues and/or repairs required
  • Follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
  • Immediately report all safety hazards
  • Inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
  • Perform count check of items and check customer invoices of loaded products
  • Check and complete all required paperwork associated with freight accurately and legibly
  • Move tractor to loading dock and attach preloaded trailer as needed
  • Drive to and deliver customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedule
  • Unload products from the trailer and transport items into designated customer storage areas
  • Perform damage control checks on items, scan, and contact supervisor about removing orders as per company policy
  • Verify delivery of items with customer and obtain proper signatures
  • Collect money where required
  • Load customer returns onto trailer and secure trailer doors
  • Ensure tractor, trailer, and freight are appropriately locked and secured
  • Unload damaged goods and customer returns and complete necessary paperwork
  • Perform daily record of hours of service and enter log per DOT, state, and company requirements
  • Perform general housekeeping duties in tractor and loading dock area, keeping trailers clear and clean
  • Secure all equipment and complete all necessary paperwork at end of shift
  • Perform other duties as assigned
