Job Description
Performance Foodservice, a subsidiary of Performance Food Group (PFG), operates as a broadline distributor serving a diverse range of local customers including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. The company prides itself on fostering strong relationships with its clientele through a dedicated team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other industry experts. These professionals provide comprehensive support by offering advice on enhancing operations, menu development, product selection, and strategic business solutions. Performance Foodservice does more than just deliver quality food products; it is committed to helping independent restaurant owners and local businesses succeed and grow in a competitive market.
As a critical component of America’s food supply chain, Performance Foodservice ensures reliable and timely delivery of food and related products, playing an essential role in supporting the hospitality and foodservice industries. The company's work environment is known to be safe and inclusive, with a culture that emphasizes rewards, recognition, and respect for every team member. The company also offers competitive compensation along with comprehensive benefits from day one, including health and wellness benefits, employee stock purchase plans, 401K matching, education assistance, paid time off, and more, underscoring its investment in employee well-being and professional growth.
The Delivery Driver position at Performance Foodservice is a full-time role with drivers averaging an annual pay of $83,000. The schedule typically runs Monday through Friday, with occasional Saturdays and required layovers. Drivers must have a CDL A license and are expected to manage long hours, often 12 or more hours per day, with options for 4- or 5-day work weeks depending on operational needs.
In this role, drivers are not only responsible for the transportation of goods but also serve as the face of the company, fostering lasting customer relationships through professional interactions. The driving duties include operating tractor trailers or straight trucks on intrastate and interstate routes, including local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight routes. A paramount focus is placed on safety, compliance with Department of Transportation regulations, and maintaining company standards. The driver performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and trailers, ensures freight is securely loaded and unloaded, and completes all related documentation accurately. Additionally, drivers collect payments when required, handle customer returns, and uphold the security of freight and equipment at all times.
The position demands physical capability to handle product cases and freight weighing between 10 and 90 pounds, often utilizing equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates to transport goods efficiently and safely. Drivers must pass post-offer drug tests, criminal background checks, and road tests, and maintain a clean motor vehicle record for the past three years. Holding or obtaining a valid DOT Health Card is also a necessary certification for this role.
Overall, a career as a Delivery Driver at Performance Foodservice promises both challenging and rewarding work, with strong support, significant growth opportunities, and a role vital to feeding communities and supporting local businesses nationwide.
