Job Description

Performance Foodservice, a division of Performance Food Group (PFG), operates as a broadline distributor with a commitment to delivering not only quality food products but also exceptional service to a diverse range of customers. Serving independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries, Performance Foodservice maintains close, trusted relationships with its clients through a dedicated team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and product experts. These professionals collaborate to provide valuable insights into operations improvement, menu development, product selection, and strategic approaches to managing foodservice businesses. The company fosters a culture that supports independent restaurant owners and foodservice providers in achieving their business goals and growth ambitions.

The CDL-A Driver role at Performance Foodservice is vital to the company's operations and the broader food supply chain across the United States. This position involves driving tractor trailers or straight trucks to deliver food and related products to customers in a safe, timely, and professional manner. With an average annual pay of $90,000 and a schedule of Monday through Friday, drivers start their days typically between midnight and 5 a.m., operating 10-12 hour shifts, and returning home daily. Carrying a Commercial Driver's License Class A (CDL-A) is mandatory for this role.

As a CDL-A Driver, you represent the face of the company, ensuring that customers receive their orders accurately and on time while embodying the high standards of Performance Foodservice. Your responsibilities include pre- and post-trip inspections, adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, safe and secure freight handling, and professional communication with customers, vendors, and colleagues. This role demands dedication to safety, punctuality, and excellent customer service skills.

Performance Foodservice offers competitive pay along with a comprehensive benefits package that begins on day one of employment. Benefits include health and wellness coverage, an employee stock purchase plan, 401(k) employer matching, educational assistance, paid time off, and more. The company emphasizes a safe and inclusive work environment where employees are recognized and rewarded for their contributions. There are growth opportunities within the company for those who demonstrate commitment to supporting the critical function of food distribution and customer satisfaction.

The CDL-A Driver position is more than just a delivery job; it is a key role in ensuring that the country’s food supply chain operates smoothly. Drivers take ownership of their routes, maintain accurate records such as hours of service logs in compliance with federal and state regulations, perform damage checks on products, and handle customer returns and payments when necessary. The role also requires physical stamina to unload and move freight using equipment like hand trucks and lift gates, handling cases that may weigh between 10 and up to 90 pounds.

In summary, joining Performance Foodservice as a CDL-A Driver means becoming part of a respected food distribution organization that values driving excellence, safety, and customer service. It offers a rewarding career with stability, attractive compensation, and comprehensive benefits, along with the chance to contribute to a vital sector serving a wide and varied customer base across multiple industries.
