The role of a Delivery Driver at Performance Foodservice is a critical position within the company’s logistics and supply chain operations. Delivery drivers play an essential role in the food supply chain by ensuring that food and food service products reach customers accurately, safely, and on time. More than just transportation, these drivers represent the face of Performance Foodservice by maintaining positive, professional relationships with customers, vendors, and colleagues. The position involves operating tractor trailers or straight trucks on various routes, including intrastate, interstate, local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight runs. Drivers are responsible for ensuring all Department of Transportation (DOT) rules and company safety protocols are strictly followed.

The average compensation for drivers is approximately $83,000 annually, reflecting the valuable and demanding work performed including long shifts averaging over 12 hours per day with schedules primarily Monday through Friday and occasional weekends or layovers. The company offers flexible workweek options of either 4 or 5 days to accommodate drivers’ preferences.

Key job responsibilities include performing safety inspections before and after trips, ensuring trailers are properly loaded and freight is secure, accurately completing all required delivery documentation, unloading products and placing them in designated customer storage areas, and managing customer interactions professionally including verification of delivered items and collecting payments where applicable.
