The opportunity available is for a CDL-A Driver, a vital role within the company’s logistics and distribution network. This position involves operating tractor trailers or straight trucks for intrastate and interstate deliveries encompassing local, over-the-road, shuttle, overnight, and drive-and-drop routes. The primary objective of the role is to ensure the timely and safe delivery of food and food-related products to customers, guaranteeing the integrity of the products and upholding all Department of Transportation regulations.

The CDL-A Driver serves as the face of Performance Foodservice, representing the company while building lasting relationships with customers by providing excellent service. This role requires a reliable, safety-conscious individual who is skilled at performing vehicle inspections, maintaining delivery schedules, managing paperwork accurately, and communicating effectively. Drivers will be expected to assist with loading and unloading products, verifying deliveries, collecting payments when necessary, and ensuring that all freight is properly secured.

Employment for this position is full-time with a rotating 4-day workweek schedule from Monday to Friday, occasionally extending to a fifth day. The pay averages $38 per hour after training, complemented by a $10,000 sign-on bonus subject to eligibility. Job Requirements

  • physical ability to lift freight weighing up to 90 pounds

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Communicates and interacts with customers, vendors and co-workers professionally ensuring questions are answered accurately and in a timely manner
  • functions as a team member within the department and organization and perform any duty assigned to best serve the company
  • performs all required safety checks including inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation regulations
  • reports all safety issues and repairs required
  • follows all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
  • immediately reports all safety hazards and inspects trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
  • performs count check of items and checks customer invoices of loaded products
  • checks and completes all required paperwork associated with freight accurately and legibly
  • moves tractor to loading dock and attaches preloaded trailer as needed
  • drives to and delivers customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedule
  • unloads products from trailer and transports items into designated customer storage areas
  • performs damage control checks on items, scans, and contacts supervisor about removing orders according to company policy
  • verifies delivery of items with customer and obtains proper signatures
  • collects money where required
  • loads customer returns on trailer and secures trailer doors
  • ensures tractor, trailer, and freight are appropriately locked and secured
  • unloads damaged goods and customer returns and completes necessary paperwork
  • performs general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock and keeps trailers clear and clean
  • completes daily record of hours of service in accordance with federal, state and company requirements
  • secures all equipment and completes all necessary paperwork at end of shift
  • performs other related duties as assigned
