Job Description

Grand Central Bakery is a pioneering artisan bakery company rooted in the Pacific Northwest since 1989. Known for igniting a bread revolution with its rustic, handcrafted breads, the bakery is a Certified B Corporation that puts sustainability, community, and employee care at the forefront of its mission. Grand Central Bakery operates as a full-service artisan bakery, supplying a variety of premium bread products to local customers, neighborhood cafes, and wholesale accounts. The company’s commitment to quality, environmental sustainability, and corporate social responsibility distinguishes it in the highly competitive artisan bakery industry.

Grand Central Bakery is seeking a dedicated Delivery Driver 1 to join its team. This essential role involves delivering freshly baked artisan breads safely and efficiently to various customers and cafes. The Driver 1 acts as the face of the bakery in the community, providing exceptional customer service aligned with the company’s core principle of the 3 Steps to Giving Great Service. The position requires mastery of multiple delivery routes within six months of hire and the ability to complete these routes within strict timeframes. Over time, the driver is expected to manage an increasing number of routes, showcasing growth and commitment to the role.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position paying $25.27 per hour, with eligibility for overtime. The role demands flexibility, including weekend availability and early start times at 2am to meet the bakery’s nonstop operational schedule. The Delivery Driver 1 reports to the Delivery Manager and collaborates closely with the Assistant Delivery Manager and Delivery Coordinator. Key job functions include safe operation of company vehicles, accurate packing and invoicing, product knowledge and quality control, and customer relations. Drivers are also responsible for routine vehicle inspections, maintaining clean delivery equipment and areas, and effectively communicating any concerns or opportunities to management.

Grand Central Bakery values safety, high standards, teamwork, and a commitment to anti-racism and cultural inclusion. The ideal candidate embraces these values and contributes to a positive, respectful work environment. Essential skills include safe driving practices such as the Smith System, handling delivery-related paperwork with precision, and a robust understanding of bakery product characteristics and quality control measures. This role requires physical stamina and the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds while navigating various physical tasks such as bending, climbing, and repetitive arm motion.

Joining Grand Central Bakery means becoming part of an organization that successfully blends business with a mission to do good while providing employees with meaningful work, stability, and opportunities for development. The Delivery Driver 1 plays a pivotal role in maintaining Grand Central Bakery’s reputation as a leader in artisan bread delivery, customer satisfaction, and sustainable business practices. Candidates who respect the intersections of environmental stewardship, community involvement, and exceptional service will thrive in this career opportunity, helping to continue the company’s legacy of quality and integrity in bakery delivery.
