The role of the hourly store team member is integral to the day-to-day success of the store’s operations. The position requires team members to operate various equipment used in food preparation, stock ingredients, and supplies in designated storage areas, accurately receive and process telephone and in-person orders, and help maintain inventory records and complete related paperwork. Team members must also participate in routine cleaning tasks to uphold the store’s sanitation standards.
Training and orientation for new employees are provided on the job, ensuring that team members are familiarized with the company's standards, equipment operation, and customer service protocols. Communication skills are vital for this role, as team members must clearly understand written instructions and communicate effectively with customers and co-workers, especially when taking and processing orders both in person and over the phone.
Physical demands of the position include standing for the majority of the shift, occasional walking, lifting heavy items such as cases of ingredients and supplies up to 50 pounds, and performing repetitive hand and arm movements typical of food assembly tasks. Workers face exposure to varying temperatures within different areas of the store, from coolers at around 36 degrees to hot kitchen environments at temperatures up to 90 degrees or higher. The role also requires handling hot surfaces, sharp edges, and machinery safely.
Additional details important to the position involve the ability to perform mathematical calculations quickly and accurately, make correct monetary change, and use basic computer skills like keyboard or touch screen entry of orders. Team members must possess good motor coordination, eye-hand coordination, and the ability to perform precise movements under time constraints.
For those team members eligible and interested in driver or store management positions, additional responsibilities include delivering products, flyers, and door hangers. This requires valid driver’s licenses, access to insured vehicles, navigational skills, and the ability to manage deliveries under various weather conditions and physical demands such as climbing stairs and carrying product during deliveries.
