Job Description
Great Lakes Wine & Spirits stands as Michigan's largest alcoholic beverage wholesaler, proudly servicing all 83 Michigan counties. With a legacy spanning nearly 80 years, the company began as a family business and has grown into a robust organization employing over 1,000 dedicated individuals across multiple facilities throughout the state. Rooted in time-honored principles such as honesty, hard work, fair dealing, and exemplary customer service, Great Lakes Wine & Spirits continues to honor its heritage while adapting to the evolving demands of the beverage industry. Known for their commitment to innovation and service, the company drives growth by responsibly enhancing demand for their extensive portfolio of alcoholic beverage products. This blend of tradition and progress has made Great Lakes Wine & Spirits a trusted partner within Michigan’s industry and communities.
The role of Delivery Associate at Great Lakes Wine & Spirits is a critical position within the company's logistics and customer service teams. Based out of the Kalamazoo depot, the Delivery Associate is responsible for the hands-on delivery of alcoholic beverage products to accounts primarily in the northern regions of Michigan from the Traverse City depot. This role involves meticulous planning, physical stamina, and customer interaction. A significant duty includes loading products onto handcarts and transporting these orders carefully and accurately to the designated customer locations.
Beyond the physical delivery task, the Delivery Associate operates commercial vehicles, specifically CDL box trucks equipped with airbrakes, ensuring safe transport in compliance with DOT and company regulations. The position requires exceptional customer service skills because the associate represents Great Lakes Wine & Spirits directly to clients and must be courteous, respectful, and professional at all times. This role may also involve handling payment collection, verifying product accuracy, and communicating effectively with department personnel and customers alike.
In addition to delivering in all weather conditions, the Delivery Associate will often operate equipment such as power and manual pallet jacks, sometimes utilize hi-lo forklifts, and maintain all delivery vehicles by cleaning and performing routine checks to support operational efficiency. The career offers a full-time schedule running Monday through Friday, with shift start times around 5:30 AM. Flexibility is required for occasional Saturday shifts during holiday seasons and peak business periods.
Compensation for this vital role includes a guaranteed daily minimum wage of $208.80 plus commission, reflecting both stability and growth opportunities through performance incentives. Benefits encompass a broad spectrum of medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, employee assistance programs, and group legal coverage, further highlighted by opportunities for buy-up enhancements and immediate 401(k) enrollment. Vacation, personal time, and paid holidays contribute to a well-rounded package designed to support work-life balance. The role promises an engaging, physically active career path with a reputable company dedicated to its people and community.
