The role of a Barista within Metro Market is central to exceeding service standards by delivering prompt and high-quality coffee selections, purchases, and preparation. This position plays a key role in promoting the company's core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety. A successful Barista ensures that every customer receives excellent service by greeting them warmly, answering their questions knowledgeably, and suggesting products to enhance their experience while meeting sales goals. The Barista is responsible for preparing a variety of customer beverage orders, including espresso drinks and the Coffee of the Day, to company standards.

In addition to beverage preparation, Baristas are tasked with maintaining the cleanliness of the customer service area and equipment, adhering to store policies and procedures, and performing cleaning tasks as outlined by duty rosters and cleaning standards. They must follow merchandising standards, effectively stock, rotate, and store all products, and comply with cash handling and register policies. Handling inventory accurately and efficiently is also part of the job duties.

This role requires working cooperatively in a fast-paced, sometimes stressful environment, requiring excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively. Strong interpersonal skills are essential as the Barista interacts with diverse customers and colleagues, managing conflicts reasonably and nonconfrontationally while acting with honesty and integrity at all times. The position also supports customers with special needs, minors, and older adults by providing direct assistance when necessary. The ability to complete initial store training and achieve barista certification with a minimum score of 90% is a requirement for this role.
