The Kroger Family of Companies encompasses a diverse range of food and drug stores, including Smith's Food and Drug, which has been serving customers since its merger with Kroger in 1998. Through over 140 stores spread across Utah, Nevada, New Mexico, Arizona, Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming, Smith's Food and Drug maintains the same high standards and values as Kroger, combining a passion for food with a commitment to enriching the community.
Working at Kroger is more than just a job; it is an opportunity to be part of a larger mission to feed the human spirit by offering wholesome, fresh, and healthy food options. The company's core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety form the backbone of its operations, cultivating a welcoming and engaging work environment where associates can thrive personally and professionally. Kroger offers its employees comprehensive benefits, including health care coverage, paid time off, financial and emotional counseling, as well as tuition reimbursement up to $21,000 through its industry-leading Continuing Education program.
The role of a Deli Clerk is a vital part of Kroger's food service team. Deli Clerks are responsible for creating an outstanding customer experience by delivering exceptional service while encouraging team collaboration. This position is focused on ensuring a clean, safe, and inviting deli environment where customers feel welcomed and valued. Deli Clerks assist department managers in achieving sales and profit goals by adhering to quality assurance standards and maintaining product freshness and safety.
Deli Clerks are expected to have an understanding of food production and basic cooking techniques. They prepare food items for cold cases, fresh packs, salad bars, and hot bars according to customer requests and company recipes, using kitchen utensils and equipment such as fryers and slicers. Labeling, dating, covering, rotating, and monitoring deli items are important tasks to ensure compliance with food safety regulations. Customer service skills are paramount, as the role involves addressing customer needs promptly, providing product knowledge, making suggestions, and employing suggestive selling techniques to enhance the shopping experience.
At Kroger, the Deli Clerk role is more than operational duties; it is about representing the brand's purpose and making a positive impact on customers’ lives. Associates in this role benefit from flexible scheduling options, full- or part-time roles, and opportunities for growth through continuous training and career pathways.
