The role of a Deli Team Member at Community Food Co-op is a vital front-facing position that directly impacts customer experience. Reporting to the Prepared Foods Managers, this non-exempt, union positions classified as Level 1 under Teamsters Local 231 requires delivering exceptional customer service within a dynamic and cooperative environment. The deli team is responsible for preparing and maintaining deli cases, a hot bar, and a salad bar, all while ensuring freshness, quality, and attractive presentation of products. In addition to food preparation, this role includes making espresso drinks, stocking Grab & Go items, managing signage and labeling, and supporting back-of-house tasks such as food prep and dishwashing during slower periods. Flexibility and a positive attitude are essential, as the deli team member must adapt to a fast-paced environment and maintain the cooperative spirit throughout daily operations.

Job Duties

  • Provide welcoming, efficient, and knowledgeable customer service
  • answer questions about deli products, ingredients, and current promotions
  • contribute to a respectful, inclusive, and team-oriented work environment
  • communicate clearly and professionally with coworkers and supervisors
  • open and set up the deli service case, hot bar, and salad bar according to daily checklists
  • prepare and serve espresso drinks to standard, including opening and closing the espresso station
  • use meat slicer to slice deli meats to customer or production specifications
  • maintain clean, sanitary, and well-organized service areas throughout the shift
  • refill and rotate products in the Grab & Go case, hot bar, and salad bar to ensure freshness and visual appeal
  • ensure accurate product signage and labeling
  • assist with receiving deliveries and restocking supplies
  • stay informed about deli promotions and featured items
  • follow all food safety guidelines and workplace safety practices
  • support back-of-house production, prep, or dishwashing as needed during slower customer periods
  • perform other duties as assigned to support smooth department operations
