Job Description

The hiring establishment is a well-organized and customer-focused grocery retail company specializing in high-quality deli products. Renowned for its commitment to delivering exceptional fresh food and grocery items, this company prioritizes outstanding customer service and operational excellence. As a prominent player in the retail grocery industry, the company operates with a dedicated team that ensures quality products, an inviting shopping environment, and a comprehensive selection of deli items that cater to the diverse needs of customers.

The company is seeking a Deli Manager to join their dynamic deli department. This is a full-time exempt position reporting to the Assistant Branch Manager or Branch Manager, offering an excellent opportunity for seasoned retail professionals who thrive in leadership roles and enjoy managing a busy deli operation. The salary is competitive and reflects the responsibilities associated with overseeing deli product receiving, stocking, organization, and customer service quality.

The role of the Deli Manager is central to maintaining the operational efficiency and customer satisfaction levels in the deli section. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising deli staff including Assistant Deli Managers, Deli Supervisors, and Stockers ensuring that all merchandise is properly stocked, rotated, and displayed to maximize sales and minimize shrinkage. They will develop work schedules, train staff on job responsibilities and safety procedures, and monitor performance to maintain high standards of service.

Additionally, the Deli Manager will ensure compliance with food safety regulations, including HACCP standards, by conducting routine inspections and audits. Product inventory management will be a key focus area, with the manager overseeing receiving procedures and maintaining accurate inventory records using computer systems. Regular communication with vendors for ordering deli products at competitive prices and minimizing spoilage is another critical aspect of the job.

The Deli Manager will also be tasked with maintaining refrigeration equipment, ensuring maintenance contracts are up to date, and that employees are properly trained to operate equipment such as scales and labeling machines. Effective merchandising of the deli aisles to create logical adjacencies and impulse areas will be essential to drive sales and improve the customer shopping experience.

This leadership position demands strong interpersonal skills for handling sensitive employee matters such as hiring, training, discipline, and termination. The ability to communicate clearly and professionally with both management and customers is paramount. Physical requirements include the ability to lift and carry significant weight regularly, navigate cold environments, and perform manual tasks associated with stocking and cleaning.

Ultimately, the Deli Manager will uphold the company’s commitment to customer service excellence, operational efficiency, and food safety, playing a crucial role in the success of the deli department and overall store operations.
